Absolutely

Very challenging unless you live/experience it 24/7 with someone close to you

Most people are dismissive (like this thread) because they assume said person is just weird. Much more complex than that..

My guess is some of it is simply self diagnosing. It’s like how lots of people say they are OCD because they like things neat.

This and the number of people who claim ADHD bc they have been conditioned by TikTok and Instagram to not pay attention for more than a minute. It’s usually 40 y/o Starbucks drinking stay at home moms that seem to talk about that one.

Its like ADHD. There are people who legit has it, but not nearly as many people who claim to have it.

Not meaning to make fun, but your post made me laugh for many reasons, having a laundry room outside is one of them. 404 was a close second.

I might be have something, but I'm too old to worry about a diagnosis. The only people I mention this to is to women I am trying to seriously date, so they understand why I communicate the way I do. Basically, I can be talking about the Arkansas/LSU game at 1PM, and by 1:03, I'm somehow talking about black holes and nobody knows how I got there, because the context is all in my head, and until I got older, I didn't realize how it impacted other people, including at work.

Now, that results in work emails that are entirely too long, and OT posts like this that are also way too long, because I'm trying to add context I think people need. I now write work emails and don't send them for at least an hour, so I can read them like a normal person might and edit.

I developed coping mechanisms, first at work, and later in my personal life, because I wanted to be successful. Since I'm not diagnosed, I don't know what wires may be crossed upstairs, but it doesn't matter. Shopping lists, calendar invites sent for social get togethers, etc., became a part of my life a long time ago. You try calling me on Teams with no warning, FOAD. You'll get a calendar invite for sometime at my convenience in reply. I just don't like people in general, and it shows, as many here can attest to.

Yes. If you point out a baby isn’t autistic just a baby you are wrong.

The Pharmacy industry, grossly expanded the definition to include every child that woke up unhappy. Instead of changing diapers , pharmacies pushed pills reimbursed by ins.co./govt.

Autism isn't treated by medication so your analysis is wrong.

It seems like everywhere online, but especially Twitter and Reddit, people are claiming to be autistic.

They've expanded what all they include in the term "autistic."

My youngest would have been considered an Asperger's patient not long ago. Now they call it "autism level 1."

I’ve seen hyper intelligence and focused autistic kids and I’ve seen extremely destructive autistic kids. It’s a wild spectrum.

But one thing that’s not surprising are idiots on the internet wanting to have a disability and feel good about it.

I taught autism while I coached football years ago, and anyone making light or expanding on what they “think True Autism” is at best an ignorant SOB.

It’s a nasty disease and hardship for the parents like you cannot believe.

Anyone Making light of this needs to check themselves.

My heart goes out to families with members that are TRULY AUTISTIC

Agree 100% and that was the point of my post. I really don't understand the people who are getting upset that I am trying to understand why anyone would claim autism for clout. You would think that there would be an outrage from people who have family members or themselves who do truly have autism.

There needs to be a diagnostic code for “attention whore” characterized by ages 10 - 40 who have to share their pronouns, sexual orientation, somatic illnesses and mental anguish
