I feel like he does not get enough credit even from tiger fans, and it’s been this way since last year. I get it. Nabers is amazing and deserves all the attention but BTJ is flying under the radar while leading the country in touchdown receptions for a few weeks now. His catch radius is insane, all you have to do is throw it up to him and it’s an 80/20 ball. His RAC is also definitely under appreciated. The lack of National attention and appreciation he gets is beyond disrespectful. Just wish my guy got more love I guess

He'll get plenty of love at the combine though.

Didnt even know who you meant at first; probably because you call him BTJ instead of Brian Thomas. He is a great receiver that scouts will notice. Say his name...

It’s honestly like having JJ & Jamarr again, but everybody only thinks 1 of them is a 1st rounder.

I guess it’s because it’s such a deep wr class in the 2024 draft, but BTJ will be great in the NFL. Selfishly, I wish he would come back for 1 more year & he would definitely be a 1st round pick.

I don’t think he’s being disrespected. Every time we are TV he gets tons of praise.

And who cares anyway. We know how good he is and so do NFL scouts.

Personally I feel as though he’s an NFL #1 today.

I disagree with this. I think he gets a lot of praise and credit from LSU fans. Its the local and national media that don't give him the credit he deserves because of Nabers, Daniels, and Perk getting all the attention.

I hope the Bengals grab him to replace whoever they do not keep after this season.

No he's not. There was a thread yesterday (dumb thread but illustrates the point) that said Bama will take away BTJ and Nabers, can someone else step up? Tiger fans think of Nabers and BTJ as 1A and 1B. Make no mistake about it, though, Nabers is 1A.

No doubt. I can't remember a "big" WR who was a more elusive runner than he is. I guess you could say maybe say Justin Jefferson. But he's only about 6'1. Terrance Tolliver was a pretty good runner after the catch at 6'5. Of course, he only show that in about 4 games in his LSU career

It’s because he had the dropsies and people have narratives that they stay enslaved to. Narratives be narratives.

One thing I think he needs to work on, especially at the next level is his RAC. No doubt his route running, separation and hands have greatly improved. It’s obvious by his numbers. But too often a 5 yard pass to him is a 5 yard (at best) gain. When he adds the ability to catch a short-intermediate pass in traffic and pick up another 5-10 yards, he will be a complete package.

Here's some love for Brian Thomas. It's from an article on the ESPN site that lists certain players or position groups that the writer considers "luxuries," i.e. players that are just as valuable as an outstanding #1 guy.

quote:

No. 2 receiver
Brian Thomas Jr., LSU

LSU knew it had a nationally elite wideout in Malik Nabers, but it needed others to help grow the passing offense behind quarterback Jayden Daniels. Thomas had started 15 games, including nine as a true freshman in 2021, and showed production with 720 yards and seven touchdowns. But this fall he has emerged as one of the SEC's best wide receivers alongside Nabers, with 42 receptions, 732 yards and 11 touchdown catches, which leads the nation.

This is just the opening paragraph. There's much more....

LINK

Oops....just realized this is on ESPN+ Here's the rest of the segment on Thomas.

quote:

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Thomas has been excellent one-on-one, making 60% of contested catches, and he has 16 receptions against man coverage, tied for seventh nationally.

"He'll go up and get it," an SEC defensive coordinator said. "He's got long speed. He's more raw than Nabers, he needed to be developed, but naturally his ceiling is so high."

Thomas always had the physical tools to be great, but LSU's staff wanted to see better preparation and practice habits, which have emerged this year. The team has worked to isolate Thomas because, as a source noted, "You can't cover Brian one-on-one. He'll outjump you, he'll outrun you."

After LSU lost Kayshon Boutte and Jaray Jenkins to the NFL, Thomas sensed his opportunities would increase alongside Nabers, who has 56 receptions for 981 yards this season.

"We play off each other well," Thomas told me. "If teams try to bracket him, then it leaves me one-on-one. If teams try to bracket me, it leaves him with a mismatch. It depends on where we line up."

Thomas has thrived on fade routes from the slot position, consistently beating his defender. Growing up just east of Baton Rouge, Thomas is well aware of LSU's wide receiver history and loved watching Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry and others. He said his game is most similar to that of Ja'Marr Chase, the Biletnikoff Award winner in 2019, who also won most of his matchups in man coverage.

"I always want more, I always feel I can do a little bit better," Thomas said. "I feel like I've gotten off to a great start. I just want to keep going as the season progresses, making the most of my opportunities."
