Were they ever truly “united”?

Nothing will change. It’s all charades.

IMO the problem are the lobbyists who want all the spending.

It's the people versus the lobbyists and the representatives are stuck in the middle.

The lobbyists are a lot more persuasive than the people. The people are a much bigger group but they are not focused. The lobbyists are a much smaller group but they are focused with money and resources to persuade and target representatives in DC.

The lobbyists are vultures and will get their pound of flesh through your representatives. They want your money and they will get your money.

He has to get a majority vote by the full House to become the Speaker. He will need almost all of the Republican votes.

I want to see our leaders act on behalf of the people... there are too many that enter political office moderately wealthy and leavea top 1%.

He’s more conservative than McCarthy but still palatable to the milquetoast

Yes. I think he can unite the party and he will be infinitely more effective than McCarthy

He is a career politician. His entire working life has been about getting, and staying, elected. This country's boatrace to eradicate personal liberties, permit Democrats' state-sanctioned persecution of political enemies, and throw open our borders has occurred on his watch.

My prediction is he will be all talk and stall. Just like his buddy McCarthy.

Scalise is a weasel. McCarthy/ Ryan 2.0. No testicles. Status quo. Book it.

It's honestly kinda weird that either party would ever be "united".

In fact, I think it's a testament to the fact that at the least, Republicans have more principles than Democrats.

Because the reality is, a Democrat from San Fran or Seattle has about as much in common with Maxine Waters as I do with the typical person from Bangladesh.

And, Repubs from disparate parts of the country are just as different.

So, it's absurd that the Democrats can routinely appear to be one hive mind. And, it would be absurd of Repubs could too!

Steve Scalise will be what he is a politician.

As long as they don't get rid of government programs this country will continue to slide into the ditch.

All I know is if you really want to change things in DC and be successful you can't tell anyone you really want to change things in DC.

20 years ago, he would have been considered far-right.

Now, this board thinks he is swampy and RINO.

The Republicans, well, a subset of them, have absolutely no desire to be united.

Asking the far right to be united with the rest of the GOP is like asking Hamas to be united with Hezbollah.

Perhaps occasionally they have osme similar goals, but they are not united and don't want to be united.

Scalise is my congressman. I can't ever remember him voting for a major issue that I had a huge problem with.
