Kragthorpe wasn't replaced immediately. It was a very similar situation to Lindsey, where Studrawa was promoted from O-Line Coach to OC because Krags stepped down in August.
It was bad timing with when Lindsey came down with the illness and I'm not sure where people think Kelly could have gotten a full-time replacement on such short notice at the start of the season.

Coaching failure. Even if we get PJ on an interim basis till we see a different turm. Should have had a DL coach during Spring camp and the beginning of the season. Big mistake, this is on CBK.

You can't just go grab a top-tier D-line coach in August. John Jancek isn't some idiot who doesn't know football. He played college ball as a D-lineman. He's spent a lot of his coaching career as a DC and has coached multiple positions including D-line. He was the best fit at the time. Yes, BK could have called Pete earlier to help out. But it isn't like they just gave the position to some inexperienced GA. BK has an army of analysts around the team. It wasn't unreasonable to think he could handle the position.

The offense is doing brilliantly. I look at the glass half full. D line is an issue and is being addressed. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Not having a defensive line coach is obviously affecting the entire program in a bigger way than anyone imagined.
