Kelly Quote: They haven’t had a defensive line coach since spring, and that’s on me.

How is that even possible at a place like LSU? Why didn’t he replace the coach with health problems? I’m starting to think we need a new head coach. Of course, we can’t fire him due to his huge contract. Something is not right.

I would love to hear the explanation for it. It just seems way too obvious for there not to be a reason for not having a damn DL coach.

He moved jancek into that role. And also had diaco help out.

It was a tough spot to be put in. At least he is owning up to it.

Now if he was offered Pete Jenkins earlier in the season and declined then that's another story.

I think people thought kelly would come here and never make a mistake. He is a solid coach. Not Saban. People need to adjust their expectations.

The DL coach has cancer and stepped away VERY late in the process and Kelly thought the talent would be enough to overcome it. He was obviously wrong.

But to act like he just didn't hire a DL coach for shits and giggles is living under a rock.

He probably thought the other coaches could bridge the gap together and it just didn’t happen.

He did? Someone already on staff that is NOT a d-line coach apparently. He said they have not had a d-line coach since spring. It’s unfortunate for the heart attack, but you have to bring in a quality, experienced coach to take his place. Not doing that is totally irresponsible

I can tell you that if I was unable to do my job, my company would replace me in a heartbeat.

That doesn't give much confidence.
IMO, about half the defensive staff are average.
There is not one group on defense that is performing like champions, recruiting, training, or play deployment.

I’m not sure of the replacements or the temporary coach qualifications

Then email the coach and advise him of his errors. Bitching about it isn’t going to change anything

tRant - He's the coach, you have to take everything he says in the most literal way possible.

also tRant - He's the coach, you can't take anything he says literally, it's all coach speak.

I mean coaches dropping out really close to the season is pretty uncommon.

yeah i think we should make some changes. we need more dynamic coaches both as coaches and recruiters.

We’re getting into O territory with Kelly’s constant “put it on me”.

CBK pretty much said near the end of his presser yesterday that he should have brought in Jenkins a lot sooner.
