Headed to Boston in a couple of weeks. Staying in the Cambridge area right across the bridge near TD Garden.

I am really interested in the historical aspect of the city. Since its my first time out there I don't mind hitting all the tourist spots.

Looking for any recommendations...food, must sees, etc

Go to the JFK library and spend a few hours browsing. Worth it.

Do a self guided freedom trail tour on foot. Download a trail map and take it at your own pace. Don’t do the bus or paid guide if you prefer to take your time at your own points of interest and avoid wasting time at uninteresting spots.

For food, my highlight from my last 2 summer trips has been Neptune Oyster. It’s on, or just right off, the freedom trail. Time your walk to be at Neptune around 11:00 and get in line. It is worth the line if you are there early enough. After 11:30-12:00 it gets really long and you lose any time advantage.

For nighttime dinners, stick to the north end for Italian and dessert at Modern or Mikes bakeries. This should all be within walking or short Ubers to where you’re staying.

There are a ton of incredible restaurants not in the north end. Mikes and Modern are fine but touristy. Go to Bova instead.

If the weather is good, it’s one of the better cities to get dropped off in the middle of everything and just start walking

Was there 2 weeks ago again. There is a lot a to do and it is an amazingly fun walkable city. Felt super safe the entire time as well.

The Freedom Trail is great if you never done it:

From where you are staying Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution are really close and a great way to start. Note that all the National park areas are free. You could then Uber to Boston Common and walk back the Freedom trail back to the Old North Church or vice versa. Either way I would Uber to one end of the trail and walk back but not not walk there and back.

We had a great time in the Boston Common as the weather and vibe was outstanding the day we where there and spent hours there just relaxing and wandering around

Food will not be an issue
as across the bridge from where you are staying is the North End and it has Italian restaurants and dessert/coffee shops galore. I am sure the local know better places but Hanover Street is delightful the first time you visit.

Some of the snazzier restaurant you will need reservations or wait in a long line. We ate pizza for lunch at a place called Upper Crust close to the Common. We also ate dinner at Trattoria Il Panino on Hanover and also at a place called Vinoteca di Monica the next evening.

At the the end of the day IMO it seem all the restaurants on the North end were similar in fare and price and we enjoyed all of our meals but we chose based on how soon we could sit. On Saturday night had long lines. Again the locals will know the best spots.

USS Constitution (glad I didn't sail on that thing back in the day...rough life)

One of many art display in the Boston common.

Paul Revere

Enjoy

We were there last summer, first visit, other than a few days 30 years ago for a conference.

When you walk the Freedom Trail talk to the volunteers/workers in the Churches/Meeting Houses. They are very knowledgeable and can tell you a lot of details about the Revolution. The person we talked to in The Old State House had a lot of information about the history of the city.

Get a piece of Boston Cream Pie; we got one at Mike’s on Hanover St. It was very, very good. Try and catch a game at Fenway.

Take advantage of the train if you can.

Boston is a super fun 1 or 2 day city. Go to a red Sox game. Check out the historical stuff too! Mike's is worth the wait, I think. Paul reveres house is near there too

JFK library (easy train ride to it), Freedom trail, USS Constitution, Harbor Cruise, Day trip to Newport is great if you have time (companies do this from your hotel door). See the old cemeteries and churches. Old North church. Museum.

Hop on/hop off bus tour is great. The guides give you incredible detail on the history of Boston.

Fenway tour is awesome and a must do. Go to a Sox game if you can.

Whale watching tour was surprising great.

Harpoon Brewery tour is phenomenal. Do the tour and then sit and have a pretzel and a few beers.

Harvard Arboretum is gorgeous if you like nature things.

If you rent a car, download the Parking Panda app. Very helpful.

Unless you’re leaving the greater Boston area, do not rent a car.

Fun fact, my younger sister is roommates with the owner’s daughter, they live in lower Manhattan… both are in the acting/theater/producing/writing scene. They got paired up as freshman roommates at NYU in 2009 and have been best friends ever since.

Not a chance in hell I’m posting a picture, but nice try.
