We are planning to go to Colorado around Mardi gras because the kids want to see snow mainly. I’m the only one in the group that skis so we were thinking of maybe just doing tubing, a snow mobile tour, and one of the bourse drawn dinner rides. What is a good area or resort to focus on for these activities? I’ve been to keystone and steamboat many years ago but I can only imagine how much things have changed. We will be driving up and also spending a night or two in Colorado Springs at either the great wolf lodge or the Glen Eyrie castle. Thanks in advance.

Stay in Frisco. You’ll have Breck, Keystone, Copper, and Vail within a short car or shuttle ride.

I would pick Breck, Steamboat or Telluride. All have enough in town to keep you busy since you aren’t skiing. Pick telluride for the wow factor if you’ve got money to throw around.

Just wait for the summer and drive around Estes Park, you will see snow and the prices will be much cheaper/weather much better

Since lift lines will not be applicable to your trip. Stay in Summit County is probably the best and easiest bet for what you're looking for. Someone mentioned using Frisco as home base and spreading out from there for activities, which is a great plan. Other towns that have what you're looking for are Winter Park/Fraser, Steamboat, Crested Butte, Aspen, and Telluride. The latter two of those are quite a bit more expensive than the rest.

Although it's the furthest drive (and potentially sketchiest if a storm is hitting) from the front range urban corridor, Telluride is my favorite mountain town. We're regulars in Breck.

If you don't want to ski, there may be options to see snow and do some of those things that would better suit you than doing it at a ski resort. A non ski resort would likely be a lot cheaper for one.

I'm just thinking Wisconsin, new mexico, etc.

Are you opposed to doing a kids ski school for a day to see how they like it?

Frisco makes a lot of sense.

Town with stuff, not too far from the front range. Then you have four resorts to spread out to, and they all have tubing/skating/other shite beside skiing.

Dillon or Frisco if you want a base to explore the different areas, although weather/driving conditions might change any plans. Breckenridge if you want to stay in one town, minimize driving, and do everything the town offers. Regardless, take a day trip or two to places like Georgetown, Idaho Sorings (both on the way to/from DEN), Vail, Leadville, or Glenwood Springs. If you just can’t stand it and cave to the ski bug, take a day at Loveland.

Thank you for the responses. We ended up booking a condo in Silverthorne (found when looking around the Frisco area) since the price was so much better. Looks like we will still be within driving distance of everything. Thanks again for the suggestions!

if you're not going to ski, then go to a town with hot springs. Ouray would be awesome, but i would think it might be hard to get there in February.
Steamboat Springs might be a decent destination as well for this as well as some skiing/tubing.
