Ole Miss' claim of 3 national titles

Ole Miss claims 3 national titles: 1959, 1960 and 1962. However, they may want to check with the folks in Syracuse and Minnesota as both were awarded wire service titles in 1959 and 1960.
The 1962 "title" was awarded by some goofball organization named after an educator named "Litkenhous". Yet, they claim it.
By the way, another SEC school was awarded a national title that very same year by Billingsley, arguably at the time as valid as the prestigious Litkenhous trophy. That school is LSU.
The bottom line is Ole Miss has never won a wire service title. Furthermore, each of the "Major Hoople" titles they claim were shared with other schools who won the recognized title. Yet, they continue to boost of "The Tradition" that is Ole Miss football.
This from a program that has not been relevant since JFK.
The delusion that is Ole Miss football is truly pathetic.

they are not the only school that claims tainted titles.

It's like highschool camps...
Everyone get's an award. You don't think the honorable mention, best spirit, and etc. mean a damn thing do you. It just means the staff feels sorry for you the most.

At least Bama HAS won a few legit ones, though.

IMO,their 1960 FWAA title is legit.

Well then. I guess since there was no BCS, there were no National Titles before '03. USC might have something to say about that.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I agree.
I'm also happy, LSU doesn't resort to this sort of silliness. I mean, we could claim 1908.

I saw a shirt this Bama girl was wearing before the game a few weeks ago and it said something like "22 Titles v. 2 Titles" as in Bama's titles vs. ours. I'm not sure if the shirt was just out of date or if the maker actually had the gall to not count our 2003 Title while simultaneously counting titles that Bama didn't have. 22 sounds high - isn't it more like 12?
We've got one in 1908 we can claim. The game wasn't really the same back then.
I wonder if Princeton claims their supposed 1869 championship - when American football was quite literally just soccer.

Yea, and LSU shares the 1958 title with Iowa, who claim the FWAA title. And their is a strong argument that the FWAA title is more legit than the wire service titles at the time because the FWAA was the only title that considered the full season.
Just playing devil's advocate here.
ANd to state a fact, Ole Miss had some damn good teams back then. They got screwed in not getting the wire title in 1960

Follow me here Fitzgerald...Ole Miss has never won a wire service title. Never. LSU won both wires in 1958, Coaches and BCS in 2003 and AP, Coaches and BCS in 2007.
For good measure, LSU has also won 6 SEC titles since 1963.
Think about it....the Ole Miss fan base has to reach back 48 years (you know, right after Kennedy squeaked by Nixon?) to talk smack about any type of championship.
That is exactly what I mean by being pathetic.
Now, run along and pop in that tape of the 69 Sugar Bowl. Archie wins.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but all those polls under which Ole Miss claims a championship are polls which are retroactive - i.e. they didn't exist at the time of the supposed championship.
You gotta wonder - the last time Ole Miss was any good was back in the days of segregated teams, right? You think that combined with the widespread use of the Webel flag tells us something?

You're wrong.
BOLD = Retroactive polls
1959: B(QPRS), DuS, SR
1960: BR, CFRA, DeS, DuS, FWAA, NCF, WS
1962: BR, L, SR
So in all three of their claims, at least one poll is not a retroactive poll.

I wonder if any of the more elderly Ole Miss fans would care to tell us stories about all the celebrations that went down in Oxford after they won the Litkenhous ratings in 1962. I bet it was a wild scene.

So you want me to admit what? That back in the days when there were 329 different media outlets naming NC's that the "wire service title" is the only one that carries any weight? That's retarded. NC's in those days were subjective at best, at worst they were paid for by rich alums who wanted to hang a banner in their house.
If you want to claim that LSU has had more recent success fine, no argument there. But to ignore NC's from 50 years ago by interwebbing some garbage about who's final polls can kick the other final polls asses is just plain stupid.
P.S. Six SEC Titles
1947: 9-2
1954: 9-2
1955: 10-1
1960: 10-0-1
1962: 10-0
1963: 7-1-2
