I'm not sure how much you value a relationship should be based on how long someone is going to remember you.

Sure, immediate family will remember you longer, but eventually they will also be gone and then you might live on as a story and some photos passed along, but even that is totally insignificant in the end if you look at time as a whole.

Even if you're extremely well known for whatever reason and end up a part of society's historical records, that might add on a century before no one ever thinks of your existence again.

And does it really do you any good to be remembered at all, regardless of how long?

In other words, I value my pets even if they forget me whenever I'm not in the room.
