I really like 335s and Teles, so I put some lollar El Rayos in my 335, with slightly higher than low action and 13s.

Acoustic, best value for American made is vintage Guilds and I love my D35.

The only guitar I play is the same one I learned on. A 1977 lawsuit Takamine. I have much more expensive guitars, Martins and Strats, but when I sit with the Tak it’s like putting on a glove. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to have an enjoyable experience playing guitar.

I got in contact with the only surviving member of those brothers about 10 years ago, as I was interested in purchasing that exact guitar and was willing to offer a more than fair price. He didn't want to part with it for what became a ridiculous offer, as it was more sentimental to him than to me.

Ask him to borrow it, then don't give it back. When he threatens to sic the cops on you, give him a nice keyboard.
That's how Duane Allman got his original one.

It's hard to beat a good Takamine.
I have other acoustics that sound better to me these days, but the thing that sets the Tak apart, you can put any tuning on it that you want and it will still play like butter. Other guitars don't respond nearly as well. I would like to know what the secret is about that.

That guy introduced me to the music of Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, The Misfits, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and the herb of Marijuana.

He wouldn't take $13,500 for the guitar, and I respect that. Now, if something happens to him I'm contacting his younger sister.

Yeah, I had good friends that messed me up like that too. I Wouldn't trade it for anything
Keep your eye on the prize man. Don't lose contact.

Taks are simply overbuilt. Every element of the guitar is slightly thicker - the soundboard, the sides and back, the neck and especially the fingerboard, even the polyester finish. One may say doesn't that stifle tone and resonance? Not really, if you designed the thicker parts to sound and resonate good from the onset.

A THICKER, HARD slab of rosewood or ebony does wonders for adding resilience to a neck in regard to different string gauges and tunings.

I know all of this is truth. I just wish it had a spruce top instead of cedar.
On that same line of thinking though, this recent Epiphone that I have acquired, it tunes down well, but doesn't tune "up" ( I know you know what I mean) very well.
I'm studying it, and the headstock is thin. It tapers from about .750 just above the nut, to slightly more than .560 at the very top, and has a lot of inlay.
I know, I said " I would like to know the secret", I really already know it, but I like trying to create discussion on this stuff.
Maybe in this way, we can help the serious players save some time and money.

Triple-O size acoustics. I have a MArtin 000-28 that I love.

I have picked up a 000-18 once in a shop that was amazing. Of course it was vintage and pre-war and $20K. But the neck was like the armrest of an old rocking chair. Smooth and perfect. I think it was a 1939 or 40. It was one of those that was so amazing that I put it down after maybe a minute. You realize as you play it that it is ruining you.

I have 10, but my Rev Club King sounds / records best. Not too sound too hippy, but i love them all. I know the feel, kinda the way you know how a car feels. Ever driven someone else's car... or got a new car and it took you a while to get to know it... Guitars are the same way. If I haven't played one in a while... it's kinda like seeing an old friend.

Currently I kinda like my little 3/4 Squire Strat. Bought the cheap little guitar at MARS music years ago for my daughter when she was 10 years old for $79....she never played it much so one day I plugged it into my Mesa Electra Dyne and it sounded unbelievable.....still a cheap POS guitar but the resonance of that guitar is massive.

I have a $250 dollar Alvarez that stays in my non climate controlled shop/outdoor kitchen. Most of the time it’s dusty also. It stays close to in tune and for some reason sounds great. Been in that climate for 10-12 years. Pick it up, small fine tuning, jam!
