You obviously know more than I do about what teachers work so do the math for myself and the other in this thread.

what’s your opinions on $27 an hour. I think that’s a good living?
But if Livingston parish wants to keep good teachers, the people should’ve voted for the raises - or taxes need to reallotted so they could get a raise

I don’t care what it is. It seems like people are fundamentally determined to race to the bottom

I am shocked the people of Livingston parish don’t care about education

Our magnet program is decent but you can't change the kids attending these other schools without some sort of cultural revolution
It WAS decent. They diluted the program so much making the magnet programs "inclusive"

Few years ago they said they wanted to give teachers a few thousand dollar raise. We passed the tax. The school board gave teacher like $200 bucks and gave themselves a raise with the money. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
No no no no no.
No no no no no.

It is a sad day for Livingston schools.

Point of my short story is if public schools keep losing good parents because of this they will soon stop circling the toilet and be flushed.
Similar experience. Applied to the EBR magnet program. The lottery application asked if we would qualify for free/reduced lunch & I checked no. Low & behold my kid didn’t even get called in for testing, just waitlisted. So we went the private route.
EBR just passed the 4 renewals for EBR schools. Looking at my property tax bill & a third of it already goes to EBR schools. What have they shown in the last 10 years to justify those renewals? Any progress has been ruined by them prolonging the Covid antics.

Collecting taxes fairly is a Louisiana problem. Homestead exemption shrinks the tax base significantly, especially in rural areas like Livingston Parish. This makes it difficult to fund local things in rural areas within the state.
How we collect taxes is only part of the issue though, how we spend taxes might be the bigger issue. Why are LP schools needing an additional tax revenue? The taxes are percentage based so, their revenue should grow with the population and with inflation. So, what changed that all of a sudden they need more money to be competitive?

Before long they’ll be joining EBR and Tangi in school scores!
Lol, that’s not why those districts are experiencing low scores.

Why would you not give them raises?
Because they don’t deserve a raise.

It’s simple math. Add up the summer months along with all the holidays they get. It’s comes to around 6 months.
No need to do any math, Louisiana Teachers are paid for 182 days.

Non-certified teachers = lower scores which will make LP look even more like their stereotype. Lower scores = middle class people start moving or new people move to AP, Central and Zachary.
Hate to tell you this, but demographics plays a huge part in where teachers want to teach and how well a school does. Pouring money into a bad area is the same as setting it on fire. It accomplish none of the intended goals.

Government spends our tax money on stupid shite, then claim that we need higher taxes for teachers, police and firefighters. The truth is they already have the tax revenue to give those groups adequate pay.
