Walked a bit this AM. They didn’t want to gobble. Can’t stay much longer. Will try to get back after it this week coming up as time allows.

My son went behind our house this morning and saw 2 jakes. He heard a few gobbles but nothing close. He’s gonna try again this afternoon.

He just headed out for the afternoon hunt. Cleaned his gun before he went. That’s my boy!

He heard a few cutting up along the creek. He’s going back to freeze in the morning.

I’m not going to go out with it this cold. Sucks. Thursday couldn’t have been better in the AM. I couldn’t get these temps 90% of the time during deer season. Got something going on next weekend so I will have to try and get some pre work hunts in this week.

I’m laid up recovering from a knee operation so it’s just him. I’ll stay in the warm bed. Maybe I’ll be able to go before the season is over.

Opening Day - MS

Damn, we don't get youth weekend until April 7 and open season until April 15. Not sure the reasoning on pushing it 2 weeks this year in TN, but I'll get out there anyway.

Saturday morning didn’t hear a sound. Wind blowing 20. Hope from field to field not a peep. Walking down the road to another field look down a gas line and single gobbler 400 yards away. Duck in the woods get about 120 yards from him. Couple swipes on the slate and he is running to my brother and I.

Dead bird by 815 I shot him at 31 yards.

Sunday morning same fields. Stop at the first one. Owl hoot and 4 different birds start hammering from 4 different directions. Stay out and start calling. And they are all gobbling back but 1 is clearly getting closer 15 minutes later he comes running out the woods straight at us 90 yards away.

Gets within 40 yards and my brother folds him up.

2 birds death for the weekend both before 9.

Pike county.

Same here. Rushed up there Friday evening. I was trying to get to the back of the property where I knew they had been feeding.
Well, as I'm walking down the road and turn the corner, gobbler was strutting in the road next to a field.
I back out and try to call, but nothing. It was pretty windy and he had 5 hens with him. No reactions to my calls from the gobbler or the hen. I thought about sneaking around them but ended up watching him from far until they left. He was strutting the whole time.
Saturday morning I got out there early to the same spot and set up 2 decoys, jake and hen. I owled a few times, but didn't hear much. It was windy again. Called every 15-25 minutes. I heard one yelp and maybe one gobble but pretty quiet all morning. 8:30 comes around and I see 3 hens in front of me and just knew that he had to be behind them. Comes out full strut and got him down at 8:35am
