This is the dumbest rule chance in the history of sports
It's not even the dumbest baseball rule change in the 2020s. It's not even second dumbest.
It's still pretty fricking dumb though.
ETA: Banning the shift and limiting pick-off attempts are both dumber.

This is definitely the truth, this rule change is going to be total insanity.
The shift rule is lame, but not as game breaking as this one.

It’s not lame, the players refused to adjust and kept mindlessly hitting into the shift and striking out trying to hit over it. The league had to do something, it was killing the product

How big of a lead can the runner take when the limit has been reached?

I used to see it this way, but I've changed my mind on the shift ban.
Pitchers have an inherent advantage over hitters solely by the fact that they're throwing a small object very hard in a very short distance and it takes superhuman hand-eye coordination to be a big league hitter.
Because pitchers have this inherent advantage over hitters, the analytics boom has been a MASSIVE advantage for pitchers. Banning the shift finally gives something back to the hitters.

Pitcher does get a third pickoff attempt, but if he doesn't get the runner out, the runner gets to move up a base.

The shift wasn't killing the product, it's been around 100 years to one degree or another. Local blackouts are killing the product. And even then MLB clearly isn't hurting financially.

It definitely was. Not only were players not making adjustments but teams pitch to the shift. For 100 years players went the other way and tried to beat it. You’re 100% right on the blackout rules, they’re stupid and make no sense

It's weird because the positions are already a 'shift'. Those positions exist because over time they realized those are the most strategic positions. But now they HAVE to stand there. That's weird. You know, this probably happened when they first figured out and standardized the modern fielding positions, batting went down. What if they had freaked out about the product like you?

Who’s freaking out? If like mindless strikeouts and hitting into the shift then good for you. Other sports change their rules due to different trends why can’t baseball

I apologize for the downvote, but I hate this fricking rule.

I guess I see the fix being on the hitters/coaches instead of the rules. One of the key points of moneyball was to place a higher emphasis on getting on base, seems like guys would work in that direction and be coached in that direction.

local?
have you seen the MLB blackout rules? they might be the dumbest blackout rules in American sports.
i'm blacked out of the 2 Texas teams even though I'm not realistic driving distance from either of them, and damn sure don't live close enough to catch their local channels.
people in Iowa don't have an in-state team, and are blacked from SIX teams games.

Excuse me, you are correct. "Local" blackouts are killing baseball.
I am blacked out from Braves (3 hour drive) and Reds (4 hour drive) games which fortunately doesn't impact me too much as an Astros fan.
The Braves seem to be the biggest fan base here though and it's not like you can just drive down for a Tuesday night game.
