What is the allure of Madisonville for a retiree?
Things I would want as a retiree would be proximity to airport(s), safety, other old people, golf and a various of leisure activities which is similar to alot of the reasons we moved to St Tammany in the first place but I am just not sure I would want to be on the west side of the parish.
I am sure alot of what bugs me about Slidell now as a parent would fade and I could picture myself living on the water in Slidell (Eden Isles or Oak Harbor) boating easily weekly when the weather allows, having access to Gulf Coast Casinos and airport, closer to Gulf Coast Beaches, a couple of (not so great) golf courses to chose from and work as a course marshal for free golf, plenty of close grocery shopping, dry cleaners, shopping centers, etc.
Are you seriously advocating for Slidell over Madisonville?
Just pick Old Mandeville and call it a day.

Agree with Ruston and St Francisville. Small enough and big enough.

"Waterproof". How about Dry Prong?

Seems like there’s some nice cool south LA Cajun type town that would be nice?
St. Martinville is kind of cool and funky with some nice old houses.

North La Baws all checking in dropping those Ruston votes.
Well…..Yeah Baw! It’s a nice, small, affordable college town. It’s one of the nicest towns in La. There’s always something going on with Tech & sporting events. That would appeal to me. Lincoln Parish park is amazing & if you need to drive to Monroe for something (I don’t know what), it’s less than 30 min away

St. Francisville doesn't seem like it would be too bad.

There’s some sad answers in this thread. Somewhere on the north shore wins by default

If you don't have one of about 10 different last names, or have a bunch of friends with those names...do not move to Point Coupee Parish!

Much like Central America, I bet someone could live like a king in Ferriday on not much money provided they brought in all their own supplies and had security.
I’d still prefer Costa Rica or Panama though.

Bought a get a way a few miles North. Some of the friendliest people I've ever been around.
Plus it's got white sand beaches and crystal clear water.
