None. I am getting out here by then.

Not this one. Ruston is bland and soulless, infested with pine trees and pine tree people. No thanks.
No surprise coming from a ULM fan.

Port Hudson.
I have lived off of E Plains Port Hudson closer to 61 than 964 for several years, and it’s not bad, but certainly not where I want to retire. Crime has picked up in the area, including a boat being stolen within a couple of miles of my location.
While the area hasn’t seen the same increase that Zachary has, I think it’ll keep creeping north until the Feliciana line for a bit.
30ish years to go for me to retire, and it sure as hell won’t be in Port Hudson.

I’m not sure there are any good “ole baws” in the traditional sense for Port Hudson. I recently moved to a place where I am I’m not in that network so to speak
Welp, we might know each other then because same .
My wife is a part of a recognizable name in West Fel, but when she took my name she wanted to get away from all of that with the BS it carries. I’ve never felt “less than” here simply because of a name.
And still wouldn’t retire here in a million years.

A small town in CenLa noone knows about or wants to live in. Roughly 2 hours from Laffy, 2.5 from BR, 30 minutes to Alex (better airport than Shreveport, at least currently), hourish from Natchez, and Monroe, and you can hunt and fish until its time for the old folks home. Plus COL is low so you can live like a king.
Leave Jonesville outta this.

Completely understand. And that last sentence is key for me up here. Idgaf. The last few years have made me care about very little other than taking care of my own.

Yeah, Ruston’s too bland because it doesn’t smell like arse. He prefers paper mill towns.

what's a "pine tree person?"
Not sure. If I had to guess, it's someone that has a bigger dick than him.

Winnfield doesn't suck

I can’t get out of here fast enough. 16 years to go for me. This state is the absolute worst in the nation.

The time I’ve spent in Ruston is minimal but I found it to be decent. Small, easy to get around, seems to have good demographics, has cheap COL, has entertainment in Tech sporting events, nice scenery.
If we’re talking a laidback lifestyle which is what people who retire are looking for, Ruston seems to be the spot.
When I was 18-21 I wanted to party so I had no interest in going to college there.

Close but no cigar, but I wasn't being specific. I'd live in Effie, Deville, Jena, Columbia, Harrisonburg, etc. Although northwest of Jonesville towards 28 is some beautiful farm land.
ETA: Winn Parish and Grant don't suck either if you like solitude and being in BFE. Basically CenLa east of Alex somewhere. Has its problems but has its good things, but the OP is a very loaded question and priority dependent.

It’s just something to do. Not everyone’s life revolves around attending every LSU sporting event. Especially these days how it’s all on tv.

Brookhaven, Miss
My family has 500 acres around Hazzlehurst and Brookhaven. Great deer hunting, low democrap demographic and if/when the shite hits the fan, we all could farm that shite and live happily ever after.

The plan for the wife and I is to retire and move to the lake or possibly buy a small ranch. Coming from South Arkansas my first two choices for living on the lake would be Farmerville/Downsville or Homer (Claiborne). Community wise Farmerville is much better than Homer but the wife likes Claiborne better than D'Arbonne. I'm the exact opposite. That said, several East Texas lakes may be in play for us.... Cedar Creek, Fork, Lake o' the Pines, Palestine, Toledo Bend.
Many would be on my LA town list for that reason.
