Overrated bowl game between two overrated conferences

The sooner it’s dead, the better

I’ve been to 5 Rose Bowls. It’s pretty great, honestly.

If they would allow other conferences in, I would give them respect, but when you self-title yourself, “The Grand Daddy of Them All” and only let 2 conferences in, then there’s a major problem. They need to have an autobid for the highest ranked BIG/Pac12 champion and then the at large bid, allowing all conferences to compete to play. Penn State didn’t win the BIG and have no business playing in the game. Something like Utah v. Tulane or Tennessee would have been much better

You are young and have zero taste for the tradition in college football. And that field looks awesome. What makes me mad is that they won’t have any more Super Bowls at the rose bowl….

aybe, but that flyover was legit. I don't recall ever seeing Lancers before.

Yeah, that was pretty sick. Can’t remember the last time I saw B1 bombers in a flyover.

I still like to watch the Rose Bowl, even though I think it obviously it not as ‘big’ of a game when it’s not a CFP game. I get the chance to see two teams usually that I have not watched a ton during the season — and despite how old the stadium is I still find it to be one of the best settings for a big game. But one of the trade offs with having any kind of playoff is that the non-playoff games lose a little luster. That’s somewhat unavoidable.

I guess I’m an old 36 because I like a venue that’s plain. Most college stadiums are pigs with lipstick.

Leave JerryWorld and SoFi for the people who stare at their phone the entire game.

I was thinking earlier I don't particularly care to watch the actual game unless it is in the playoff.

Big 10 vs Pac 12 doesn't usually excite me.

Agree 100%

Pasadena is on par with Fenway and Wrigley. I hope it never changes.

least watched Rose Bowl ever, only 10 million viewers, the previous low Stanford v Iowa in 2016 had 13.6 million.

The Athletic also notes that unlike Rose Bowls before 2020, this year's event factors in out-of-home audiences like bar patrons and watch parties, so this year's numbers are even worse when compared to the past.

Been to three Rose Bowls in the last 12 years. I enjoy each experience - I'm not going for the amenities and, honestly, I know that. I'm going for an awesome game and tailgate with Wisconsin friends. Inside the stadium, the bowl goes ~80 rows around the entire stadium. That unison creates such a cool view. Plus, hard to beat the San Gabriel backdrop before and during the game.

It's weird how so many on this board are bothered by this game. Just enjoy CFB for what it is because traditions are changing... quickly.

People who hate on the Rose Bowl game and Rose Parade are just miserable pricks who obviously hate the pageantry of CFB.

Nobody keeps it more authentic and beautiful than a Rose New Years Day..thank God we still have traditionalists who fight for the future of CFB...too bad the Rose day has caved to playoffs.

Instead of just putting Bowl games in modern NFL stadiums..
Have your playoffs there...keep the Rose alive so we still have a connection to what CFB once was.

A lot of jealousy in this thread. The Rose Bowl is awesome and is a can't miss event every year.

I think you’re lumping a couple of separate things together here, who exactly is hating on the parade? The stadium is old so lacking the modern amenities, which to me is fine, someone said it’s a terrible venue to watch a game, that’s literally the only thing to do is watch the game. As opposed to Jerry World where the big screen is so distracting you wind up just watching the game on Tv basically. The view and Pasadena are gorgeous

Rose Bowl game itself is a different issue. Yes it’s tradition and it was the first bowl but by locking itself to the B1G and the Pac 10 for most of its history it locked out every one else. So why should fans in the SEC/ACC/Big 8/SWC and predecessor conferences care as much? And like it or not the sports culture has radically changed. It started as an exhibition game. The “National Champion” was named before the bowls until the mid 60s in the AP and early 70s in the coaches poll. That doesn’t work anymore. There have been calls for a playoff since at least the 80s but even the initial attempts to just match 1 v 2 were blocked mostly by the Rose Bowl. Ironically one of the greatest games in college history Texas-USC took place in a Rose Bowl, but if it was up to the Rose Bowl people they wouldn’t have had that game, they would have had Penn St, (probably getting boat raced) vs USC instead. I really wish the
UGA-TCU game was there instead of SoFi, but the Rose Bowl has only itself to blame for its obsolescence
