Not really. When I entered the private sector after my service I was YEARS behind my peers of the same age. They made much more money as well. Without Stuff like hiring incentives for veterans I might have struggled to be competitive at least when I started out. And those incentives are by no means a guarantee.

One of the biggest sacrifices is time and every veterans gives up a lot of it.

I wouldn't expect anyone to really understand however unless they were a veteran themselves.

Thats ignoring all the PTSD shite too. The military today is the reason we no longer have a draft. If people dont respect that then maybe its time to start drafting motherfrickers again. God knows the up and coming generations need a kick in the arse.

As a veteran I kind of see what you're saying. I think they most vets deserve it though. Alot more could likely be done if the VA was privatized though. And probably would save some money at the same time.

Maybe it’s just appliances

ETA:

They changed their policy.

It cannot be used on any sale item or with any other discount (such as, but not limited to, Lowe’s Price Promise, Lowe’s Credit 5% off Everyday Discount, volume or special pricing programs, and manager discretion price adjustments). It cannot be applied to major appliances (including related accessories and parts), commodities (such as, but not limited to, electrical cable, electrical wire, dimensional lumber, plywood, and OSB), gift cards, previous purchases, fees, installations (sold separately or as part of a bundle comprising both product and services), or any other services (such as, but not limited to, rentals, labor, delivery, shipping, extended protection plans). Additional exclusions may apply. See store for details.

I think we need less of telling someone who saw zero real action they are a hero 24/7 but far, far more in health care and prepping them for after military careers.

As a vet I dont want special treatment.. I just want the VA to actually give a frick and politicians to stop treating us like political pawns.

Lowe's discount worked just a few weeks ago and HD 2 days ago. I really appreciate those discounts but they're a voluntary business decision from the retailer that drive customer loyalty and good corporate image. Not sure why anyone would be bothered by that unless they're stock holders and think it hurts bottom line. VA and retirement benefits are earned and part of the agreed compensation package we signed up for.

While we spend time talking about the unneeded accolades for the most overappreciated of our military I think we should take a moment of silence to remember the chronically underappreciated members of our military: the majestic Dependapotamus. They have the hardest job in the military, just ask them.

I think veterans deserve some special treatment, and especially if you saw active duty. The only problem I have with the veteran thing is when it becomes a sales pitch. Like Black Rifle Coffee loves to say veteran owned. That just rubs me the wrong way.

As someone who enlisted in 1970...the whole "thank you for your service" thing seems a bit hypocritical...

when anyone my age says that, I think "where the f were you in 1970!!!!"

As a veteran, I agree with this completely. I knew a few people who are never coming home. To think about how some people treat each other here at home makes me feel like their sacrifice wasn't worth it.

The fact is, any of them can be called upon at any time to die for their country, and they can't say no. No other job has that requirement. Putting yourself in that position entails a certain level of support from the rest of us.

THIS!

Even a beat cop, that works Southside Chicago, can refuse to go to work, and just quit. No repercussions. Just has to find another job. Try that shite in the military.

As a veteran, 99% of the time, I don't give a shite about the "Thank you for your service", because it's usually from an employee of a place, that has been instructed to say it. But, as far as our government stepping up and taking care of the people who voluntarily signed up to serve, with the possibility they may die, lose limbs, sight, hearing etc., I don't think we do enough. It's a crying shame that all these veteran charities exist in the first place. There should absolutely not be any need for them.

well I'm an Afghan vet and an Aggie, and my opinion is that a large majority of veterans today are overly praised, overly entitled, overly compensated by the VA, and overly diagnosed with PTSD. I can understand why as a Vietnam veteran, you would see from a different perspective sir, but I assure you, today's veterans are not the same as the veterans from your war.

a beat cop in southside Chicago faces a more routine and ever present threat to his life over the course of his career than virtually the entire DOD.

Any veteran or supporter of the 2nd Amendment, that buys Black Rifle Coffee is ignorant and misinformed.
