I have a 2016 Samsung 65” QLED tv. I’m currently using the “smart hub/apps” built into the TV, but it’s becoming increasingly slow and buggy.

I’m thinking of upgrading to the nvidia shield pro versus using the built in tv apps.

Apps I typically use are YTTV, Netflix, Disney+, Plex, Amazon

Is it worth the $?

For just streaming, Firebox or Roku is more than enough and much less expensive.

There is nothing better. I have Roku on 2 TVs, Android built into my Sony and Shield Pro in my theater. It's blows the others away with speed and function.

You might want to look into whether you'll be able to watch HDR content before you buy. I know Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision and the Shield Pro doesn't pass HDR10+, so there could be a problem. I'm honestly not sure though.

no. it is long in the tooth, doesn't have HDR10+, and has a dolby vision green push.

I feel the same about shield. I suspect we will get a new one next year with the new Switch.

Mine was a little buggy (occasional freezes). And some apps didn't work on it, like Hulu & direct tv stream, which sucked because at the time I subscribed to both.

I swapped it out for a 4k max firestick and don't even use my Shield Pro now. :(

It was a beast with everything else though, I just didn't want to deal with side loading basic apps that my main streaming device should be compatible with.

It's the best but it's overkill for the vast majority of people

The only reason I went with it over sticking with Roku was to host my Plex server which is good enough for me.
