Rip Rap Along Ditch

Hello- Long time lurker, first time poster...
I have a fairly long driveway that has some "V" ditches along the sides in places. The ditches are mostly clay with rock at some parts in the bottom. I'm going to get some rip-rap to line the ditches for erosion control. I was also thinking about putting in a 4" drain line at the bottom of the ditch and covering it with the rip-rap. Would this be overkill or a good idea?
Thanks for any advice.

Do you have positive flow into a bigger ditch downstream? If so i don't think you need the pipe.

Depending on the size of the ditch, veg, soil type, etc., you may need put down some geotextile before placing the rip-rap so the rocks don't sink.

Yes sir- Each ditch section drains into a creek. This creek crosses under the driveway via culvert. One ditch pretty much goes straight to the creek on the upstream side of the culvert, and the other drains into a stand of trees on the downstream side of the culvert.

I was thinking about this also. The soil in the area is pretty firm and the ditches are too steep for any traffic. I don't think the rocks sinking will be an issue, but I am concerned about the soil continuing to wash underneath the rock..I was thinking about putting down some surge stone (2-3" gravel base in local terms) underneath the rip-rap...I think I can get it cheaper than the geotextile material...Plus I don't know of a local source for it.

May still need the fabric to keep the rocks on top of the soil.
Know anyone that does roadwork? They would know a source. Or google, you can also get it delivered.

Does it all slope away towards a drain area/daylight?
This sounds like a 6in French drain all day and then you don’t need the exposed rock at all. Assuming you can excavate out the entire run.

------
The banks of the ditch areas are fairly steep...The cross section of these areas averages ~4-6' wide and ~3' deep. Natural vegetation is pretty good at the top of the bank away from the driveway, but the ditch banks themselves seem to be too steep for plants to take hold.
The ditch sections do drain to daylight pretty well (ultimately to a creek), with the exception of a few pockets where debris has built up (some of this is my fault for not doing more storm clean up over the past few months.)

Thanks..I was considering this also but didn't know if I might need the thicker professional grade stuff for under rip-rap.

Thanks all for the feedback...I'm renting a dump trailer today to get gravel for a separate project and thought I might go ahead and get the rip-rap as well, but I think I might hold off on that and think things through a little more.
It's not necessarily an urgent situation; I'm just trying to increase the stability of our driveway since it's a only way in/out.
I'll try to post some pictures later to clarify the situation.
Thanks again.
