The difference between levels of athletes back then to now is hilarious.

That's an average route by 2019 Justin Jefferson

They'd throw Odell in jail for doing this in 1971

It was a good route. The DB was tight on Hamilton the entire route until Hamilton faked like he was going inside before he broke out. In doing so the DB had absolutely no idea where Hamilton went.

I'm not saying it was the greatest route in the history college or even LSU football. But it was still a good move.

Would that be a false start by the OL today?

Old people love talking up anything before the 80s.

The set up on that video is definitely over-dramatic. Its more of a tribute, I think, to Hamilton, who was the main reason LSU won that game going away. In an era when running a Les Miles-style offense was considered edgy, Hamilton caught seven or eight passes for 150 yards and three TDs. Notre Dame couldn't cover him at all.

i always took it as sarcasm calling it "greatest move"

it was almost no move, but the DB fell for it.

Nope. They're technically set at the snap.

Yes on the helmet numbers. Maybe tweaked a bit to modernize.

In 1971 it was a great move. DB's and WR can get a way with a lot more hand fighting and contact today then they could back then.

Well, Clark...some of us old farts like me had just finished our second tour in Vietnam. I was at the game and also at the game in Legion Field against Bama. Hamilton was good and football was good, then and now. It was a big deal to go up against Notre Dame and let the big media realize that southern boys could play football.

Very simple - he runs as though he is running an in route and turns for the ball and the minute he does the DB looks back and he cuts to the outside = great move
