What are examples of companies that almost chose to build in Louisiana but didn't?

Can you think of any instances where a company was building a factory, plant, or expanding and Louisiana was in the running for it but didn't get it?
I recall Disney World was suppose to be built in Louisiana but our corrupt politicians wanted money and it ended up being built in Orlando.
Can you think of anything in the past 10 years?

Bell Helicopter - Lafayette
Hawker Beechcraft - Baton Rouge
Elio Motors - Shreveport
Both of the aircraft companies came very close. Beechcraft ended up getting a sweetheart deal to stay in Kansas and decided against expansion at the last minute. . Not sure what happened with Bell. Elio never got off the ground and now Hyundai is using the plant.
IBM and DXE came. So did Sasol. All three were pre JBE era. Louisiana needed those kinds of wins to continue in the state but they seemed to abruptly stop about 6-7 years ago.

I don't know if Walt was ever serious about building here. He was looking at different places to throw developers off the scent of his plan, which was pretty much having it built in Florida all along. It was a cost-saving scheme on his part. There is a whole lot of myth and only a tiny bit of fact about Disney in Louisiana.

Baton Rouge almost had Amazon HQ2. Almost.

Way back there was a plan for a land/air/water/rail terminal in St James parish. Would have been an huge hub.
Seems like Bombardier was part of the financing behind that.

The Disney thing is more urban legend. They explored the area. But the east coast was always the goal.
New orleans was to be the third park.

Aldi's.
Had read that they were building one off of Oneal Lane near I-12. Then the Chyna flu hit.

The Disney thing is a myth, pulled from various kernels of truth... but Walt never considered Louisiana as a location for Disney World. It was always to be in Orlando.

Nissan factory (early 2000s?) - Went to Mississippi
Mercedes factory (mid 90s?) - Went to Alabama

Yes, several but everyone was/is under NDA.
"In the running for but didn't get" means different things. Some were just bad luck and timing. Incentives are not why companies locate; incentives are why companies take the initial conversation and they may help close the deal but more as a signal toward the company's board that the state is willing to help de-risk what is inherently a risky proposition, irrespective of location.
Once the discussions around talent and alignment are underway, everything becomes secondary. The political types have very little influence over those discussions, as it becomes quickly clear - particularly in technology - that the regional or local stakeholders have limited value add.
There are ways to do this well, aggressively, and unified, but that's for another thread.

There was this badass water park off of I-10 at the Iowa and Lacassine exits. I think exit 48?
They actually did choose to build. For all of the hate it’s received, it will be well worth it when the gem finally opens its doors this Spring. My little nephew is stoked.
