Will welcome my second child at the end of summer next year.

How is Shenandoah as a neighborhood? It would align geographically well for both my wife and my job locals along with grandparents location in Central.

Any thoughts or advice?

How accustomed are you to occasional sonic booms?

Kind of a mixed bag imo. It's such a big neighborhood that it seems like there are good parts and suspect areas. We don't live too far away and honestly the surrounding area isn't what it once was.

Shenandoah is a nice, but dated subdivision. It’s bordered by a shite show to the north (O’Neal Ln). The other surround neighborhoods are good

We moved back in 2018 and it has been great. We haven’t had any issues with crime although the things happening in Shenandoah are happening everywhere else including Livingston and ascension. As far as walking and family friendly subdivisions go, it’s pretty great. (I’ve also lived here growing up too and I think it hasn’t really gone down any in the actual subdivision). Now BR in general is another story

I think it’s an OK neighborhood with older homes with bigger yards.

The homes don’t have some of the newer features but it all depends on how big of a yard you want and if you’re willing to make some updates.

Kind of as mentioned, it’s a mixed bag.
The streets that are close to SMHS and lake at white oak are good homes. Maybe dated and need work but very good for a family.

Some of the streets near O’Neal by city Cafe and that area can be suspect. I do remember a couple of the streets near the middle school being meh too.

I don’t have kids, but I have also heard the Shenandoah middle school is decent for BR standards so that neighborhood shouldn’t be going shite at an alarming rate if that keeps up.

Its a decent neighborhood in a good part of Baton Rouge. (Aka southeast baton rouge). I feel safe in Shenandoah at night. Generally always a police officer patrolling it.

Edit: The O’neal area I see people commenting about is suspect, but that isnt until you get to South Harrells Ferry. There are some good newer neighborhoods down Oneal between Shenandoah and that random collection of slums right before South Harrells Ferry. And then north of South Harrells Ferry is all shite.

Grew up there and my parents have lived there for 30+ years. It’s gone down hill the edges are getting pretty rough but the middle part is still decent but trending in the wrong direction.

Just from reading on here, it sounds like it's on the decline

Plus, Festus and Skillet live there. Hard pass

Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

Great 25 years ago. Best young family neighborhood in Louisiana. Now there are no more young families and trash has been moving in. It’ll be a shite hole in 10 years.

I’ve been trying to get my parents to bail after 35 years before it’s too late.

Generally east side of Antioch is newer then the west side. Houses I. The back have a higher price per sq foot value

Front of the subdivision are 1970s houses while last filing was general Forrest in back around 1990.

If you can wait till April we can sell you our house haha. Not many available in neighborhood currently. We live in the southern portion of the neighborhood near the elementary school. It's pretty quiet there and we've been spared from burglaries.

I'd avoid the northwestern part of the neighborhood. The quadrant west of Antioch, east of Jones Creek, North of and including Chickamagua, and south of George O'neal. On Nextdoor it seems like every single burglary takes place in that quadrant.

The areas around the old golf course are very nice. Stay away from the main boulevards in the back near the elementary school. All in all very nice neighborhood with lots of good people.

check out Bluebonnet Terrace, Jefferson Terrace, or any of the other little mini-hoods in that area. Its enormous, quiet, and somewhat walled off/unknown for being right so close to the mall and interstate
