I think he is THE most under-appreciated Tiger of all-time. The fact that he even came back in ‘95 shows how much of a man he was. That ‘94 Auburn game was 100% on Hallman and the OC (have purposefully forgotten his name) and the shite Jamie caught and is still catching to be honest—that’s pretty much the only thing people remember about him. The ‘95 Auburn Bringing Back the Magic game is associated more with Dinardo than Howard. The fact he not only doesn’t hate LSU, but is sending his son there, is absolutely incredible. Just for that makes him one of my favorite Tigers of all time.
By the way, I was a senior in high school in ‘95 in West Monroe. It’s only a 3 1/2 hour drive that I’d made a few times by then, but my buddy bailed and wound up staying at home and listening to the game on the radio. Still have fond memories of 4 hours with Jim Hawthorne painting pictures to me and my dad in our house. But it’s crazy that an LSU/Auburn game was not nationally televised. I guess it was on Tigervision. And that really wasn’t that long ago. A few years later and every single LSU game since has been so easily accessible that we simply take it for granted.
Back to OP. Jamie Howard was a great Tiger, very underrated and under appreciated, and quite frankly, we don’t deserve him and the love he still has for the University.

Yep, He will always be remember for that Auburn game which wasn't his fault. LSU's defense was dominating that day and the run game was controlling the game. Then for some reason Lynn Amadee started throwing the ball in when Jaime was already having a bad day.

Chad Loup is the answer. He was better, the team captain and leader, and LSU Would have made a bowl in 93 of Curley played him over Howard
But Curley forced Howard playing because well, he was Curley
Loup led Howard in yards per attempt, td ratio, int ratio, completion pct, and passer rating

I remember Howard fondly.
Yeah. The INT game. I get it. And sure, he wasn't elite. But, dude played his heart out and at no point did he make it look like the fans got to him even though at that age, it almost certainly did.
Dude played in 36 games for us and has been Tiger thru and thru ever since.
As someone who dreamed of playing for the Tigers but never had the opportunity, I would gladly trade my non-LSU career for what Jamie had the opportunity to do.

I was living in Broussard hall a few doors down from Howard who’s roommate was Brett Bech. I remember after he threw 4 interceptions at Auburn he got slammed by the media and fans. Felt bad for him. Glad he’s still positive about LSU.

He kinda got Bill Buckner’d after that Auburn game that was 90% on bad coaching.

he had career 49.1% completion and 34 TDs and 47 INTs. Not good at all.
Now yes, it was under the dreadful Curley Hallman, but still bad.
Of course, i have respect for any player that gives it his all, which Jamie did. But i don’t think he’s under appreciated. He was what he was.

I remember when his teammates had to PHYSICALLY get him off of Condon in the locker room after that 3 pick game. Gotta love him for kicking Rich’s arse right? Was actually watching that game with people over and one was Wickersham (subtle brag I suppose but funny story). After the last pick the den went silent and Wick goes “BET YALL MISS ME NOW frickERS”. Guess you had to be there but it was hilarious. I know CSB

He was hot garbage like 90% of his career. Played pro baseball in spring/summer and never committed to football...not uncommon at the time but it showed. He had a cannon tho.

One of few games I remember traveling to when I was in school was SC. I just remember gabe northern recovering a fumble on the first play of the game, that it ended in a tie, and that Jamie got knocked out cold at midfield on one play.

Under-appreciated, not really because even throwing out that Auburn game he was pretty bad. Unfairly criticized, sure. He got shite on for something that was the dumb coach's fault.

I remember his OC (was it Lynn Amadee?) outright threw him under the bus after the Auburn game. I think the quote in the Advocate was “he (Howard) cost us the damn game”.
