Keep permanents: auburn/UGa, LSU/Bama rematches for SEC Championship, plus we get rid of the boot! Mo/aTm. The other ones, I don't care.

I'd much rather just go to the east and keep the SEC like it is.

MO to the east and you only play Ark or aTm as permanent. MO should love this and play Ark and aTm every year.

Doesn't matter what WE love though.

You're right. It doesn't matter what works best for new guys, just a fortunate benefit for you.
But I do think it makes sense for MO to play border states. Plus LSU trades Ark and Auburn for UGa and SC as permanents. I like the trade for us and think this allows some geographical consistency, even if it's not precise w/ locations of SC, Alabama and Mississippi schools.

Well, with us in the east, we do play all our SEC border states assuming we have Arky as our permanent.
I just think it would be the easiest way to prevent an uproar from everyone. I just don't see how a north/south alignment would really work better than MU in the east.

OK you've convinced me. Screw what you want. As an LSU guy I want a North/South split and I'm blaming MO when it happens, so all the bitching goes to you not me.

Geographically, this is off. Georgia and South Carolina are north of the MS/AL schools. If Missouri comes in, it looks more like this:
North: Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
South: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Even if you assume Georgia and Tennessee will return to prominence, this is still off-balance. That's especially true if Texas A&M becomes great, which I think they will (AAU school, great football tradition, the only Texas school in the SEC which helps with Texas recruits.)
I think this only works if you replace Missouri with Oklahoma, or Virginia Tech at minimum. And I know we can geographically fudge it a little bit, i.e. putting Missouri in the East. But I think many will be uncomfortable going overboard with it, including me.

You're right it's not geographically precise, but it's close enough.
This N/S split keeps all important games in tact, plus it has competitive balance, and I'd like to go to UGa every other year for an LSU road trip.

I like what you've done to the divisions, but not the names.
Posted on 10/31/11 at 3:47 pm to cheesey
no
too much of the recruiting talent is in the south - florida and A&M make sense to split up
a division with missouri, kentucky, tennessee, arkansas, and alabama is just not competitive talent wise with a division that has texas, florida, georgia, louisiana, mississippi, and south carolina

The whole problem with the new conference set up is permanent cross division match ups. It is probably the worst thing about our conference other than the SEC offices in Birmingham.
We don't need to hold back the majority of the conference because a couple teams want to pick their damn schedule.
