I think Mizzou is a perfect addition along the lines of an Arkansas or South Carolina.... a team that can be decent but that will never be an elite program. The SEC has enough elite programs, we don't need an OU/Texas/FloridaSt/etc.

I think it's a perfect addition if you're a fan of one of the Big6.

I agree with you in part. SEC doesn't need another elite program, I just would have preferred we add another decent team that was a better cultural fit. Missouri it just not very southeastern. My preference would have been a mid-tier school from somewhere a bit more southern and/or eastern like NC, VA or Fla.

Missouri people have always considered themselves "Southern" even though they are in the Mid-West. After all, Mark Twain was from Missouri.

Geez!!! At least half of Missouri IS culturally southern. They listen to country music, like NASCAR, eat BBQ, wave the battle flag, speak with a southern accent, and vote Republican. Hell, that's more than you can say for Florida. Welcome aboard, Mizzou!!!!

Florida and LSU want new permanents and will get them

Where in the hell is this coming from? Who is saying that LSU and Florida don't want to keep playing each other?

This sucks. Why not add SMU and Fresno State. Think of all the exposure!

My interest in SEC football is dying one head kick and conference expansion at a time.

According to this LINK:

And yet all that tie-breaking avoids the issue that inviting West Virginia would solve every one of these divisional, scheduling, and rivalry compromises.

Fact: Missouri = Compromise.

WVU is just not that attractive. If an opening in our couch-burning division turns up, you'll be the first to know.

reports from supposed insiders is that LSU's new permanent opponent will be either Mizzou or South Carolina (USC if USC is ok with ditching Arky for LSU). Arky gets either Mizzou or stays with USC (if USC is not Ok ditching Arky for LSU). A&M-Florida paired up.

I'm going to be pissed as hell if USC fricks this up for us and doesn't take LSU as a permanent opponent.

Quality of basketball program: Virtual Tie. WV has 2 final four appearances, while Missouri has 2 more elite 8 appearances.

most of your break down is spot on other than this, Mizzou is a bball school thats never even been to a final 4, WVU is a football school that has been to one in the last 5 years coming out the best bball league in the country with the program only getting better under huggins.

Quality of academics: HUGE edge to Missouri. Not only are they an AAU school and top 100 in USNWR, but West Virginia is the second lowest rated BCS school (South Florida) Even Texas Tech and Mississippi State look like Harvard compared to West Virginia.

while Mizzou is a much better academic university than WVU to say it makes TT and Miss State look like Harvard is fricking bullshite. Its been brought up many times that the instate entrance standards are so low to give every wv kid a chance at higher education. I personally don't like it but that is basically part of the mission statement of WVU. For this sole reason is why WVU takes a hit in academic rankings

Would much rather have Clemson than Mizzou.

Everybody keeps saying Clemson, FSU, etc. How do you know those teams want to come to the SEC. They might want easier competition in the ACC, better chance for them to make a BCS bowl=making more money.

True. But geographically it's Midwestern. Fits more with KS, NE, IL, MN, MI, OH, IN, PA, etc.

I cant figure out why WV fans would want to come to the SEC. All we have heard out of them is how overrated the SEC is for many many years

And I dont care if they come or not but I will under no circumstances ever go back to morgantown. I dont care if Auburn played in the superbowl there.

F'ing shite hole town with a bunch of tards in it.

Is Missouri culturally southern? On a trip to Iowa for some birdhunting, I stopped at a convenience store in Columbia. I went inside and asked the clerk for BC Powders. They stared back at me like I was from outer space. I then asked if the store carried Goody's. An even greater confused look came over their face. Oh what a headache!

Everytime Martin opens his mouth to talk about expansion he brings this up.
