Missouri was pretty much inevitable. I don't think there was much real chance of getting Clemson or other desirable ACC team. Missouri really seems to be the only real option for the reasonably foreseeable future.

barf!!!

why would anyone in the SEC want those faux tigers? they have no compelling $$$ to bring, not to mention they are named after Clem's son.

From a purely self-interested standpoint, I am psyched with this move. I will see more SEC football here in St. Louis and will get the pleasure of watching Mizzou get whipped on a regular basis. Nevertheless, I don't think it is the best move for the conference. Mizzou is a pretty weak program.

Mizzou was ranked #1 for about the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee back in 2007, I think.

I think Mizzou is a perfect addition along the lines of an Arkansas or South Carolina.... a team that can be decent but that will never be an elite program. The SEC has enough elite programs, we don't need an OU/Texas/FloridaSt/etc.

I think it's a perfect addition if you're a fan of one of the Big6.

And considering TexA&M/Mizzou is going to boost each school's paycheck from $18ish to $25-30 million, I think everyone benefits.

We already have Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Great, another crappy sports school in the West. What do they excel in? At least Kentucky is the King of basketball.

Missouri...the new Vandy

I think they are much better than Vandy (though I believe your analogy is generally correct). They just do not play "SEC" style of football. That Big 12 playground stuff will not cut it down south. Not a good fit.

reports from supposed insiders is that LSU's new permanent opponent will be either Mizzou or South Carolina (USC if USC is ok with ditching Arky for LSU). Arky gets either Mizzou or stays with USC (if USC is not Ok ditching Arky for LSU). A&M-Florida paired up.

Vandy is excellent in Baseball and Basketball.

According to a source at Auburn, there are 10 votes for Missouri to the SEC. More than enough needed for admittance. These same 10 want Missouri to the SEC West division. Presumably this is Missouri's preferance as well. Holdouts are Tennessee and Alabama who want to maintain their permanent cross-division rivalry. Slive wants the vote unanimous. He could ultimately force the issue and possibly get his way, but that is not his style. Its currently a unanimous vote if Missouri is slotted to the SEC East.

It appears Auburn has withdrawn its insistance of moving to the SEC east division. If also appears the teams will maintain one permanent cross division rivalry game.

These stay the same.

No changes to these permanents:

Alabama-Tennessee
Auburn-Georgia
Ole Miss-Vanderbilt
Miss State-Kentucky

These are up for debate if Missouri is slotted to the SEC East:
LSU-Florida
Arkansas-South Carolina
Texas A&M-Missouri

Florida and LSU want new permanents and will get them. Arkansas may want Missouri over South Carolina.
This then becomes a bit contentious as who wants Florida and LSU as permanent cross-division opponents?

Let's assume that Missouri in the SEC East is given Arkansas as their permanent cross-division opponent.
That leaves Florida getting Texas A&M and LSU getting South Carolina. I am not sure that South Carolina may agree to this trade of Arkansas for LSU.

If they do not agree, South Carolina maintains Arkansas, Florida gets Texas A&M and Missouri gets LSU as its permanent cross division opponent.

Sounds like alot of the east will have the buttcake for playing the tougher teams if Mizzou is in the East.

I'd welcome either Florida OR South Carolina as a yearly cross-divisional opponent. You know why? The Aggies are STILL in the SEC at the end of the day!

While I'd prefer South Carolina because I live at Bragg, I won't always be stationed there. Florida as a cross-divisional would allow A&M more access to the state of Florida for recruiting...and we've currently got scoreboard on Muschamp.

...and yet if people would take their eyeballs off of more more more money for just a cotton-picking minute, they'd see that inviting West Virginia would solve all of this. Bringing in Missouri seems to be involving a lot of "compromise" of the painful sort.

JP, not sure why LSU and Florida want to end the rivalry, but if that is the case, I think getting South Carolina is not a bad thing, although my preference is to play Florida yearly.

Florida getting Texas A&M is a matter of each school wanting to get exposure in each other's state.

Mizzou will need to schedule Texas schools as OOC to get their exposure in Texas. I assume the Big 12 teams in Texas will blackball them, so expect Mizzou to play SMU, Houston and North Texas as much as possible.

I would take West Virginia in the SEC...my hope is that you guys can salvage the Big East, though.

I'm on the fence about losing Florida. i totally understand why both schools would prefer to not play one another considering LSU and Florida are easily the most consistent, dominant SEC teams over the past decade or so (although that could certainly change in the future).

I've always said that I hate the permanent opponents in the SEC....but at the same time, I have developed a fondness of the annual LSU-Florida game.

I'm cool either way I guess...regardless of who LSU's permanent is (or if we even have one). I'd probably prefer Mizzou over USC just for the "new factor," but I really don't have a preference of one of those over the other.

I'm fine with whatever they decide, as long as it involves the divisions staying as they are now. The only divisional change I'd be ok with is Auburn moving East and Mizzou being placed in the West.

I think the fact that we have to play Florida every year and them us puts us at a disadvantage compared to easier slates like...Alabama or Georgia.

According to this LINK:

Missouri is 23rd with 1,084,889 aggregate fans. West Virginia is 29th with 959,403 aggregate fans.

In a virtual tie, you go with the tiebreakers:

-Quality of football program: Slight edge to West Virginia

-Basketball fans each team brings: Missouri is in basketball country in the Big 12. The most heated rivalry in that area is Missouri/Kansas, ESPECIALLY in basketball. Edge to Missouri

-Quality of basketball program: Virtual Tie. WV has 2 final four appearances, while Missouri has 2 more elite 8 appearances.

-Quality of baseball program: Large edge to Missouri. Since West Virginia's last appearance in the Tournament, Missouri has gone six times. Missouri isn't a baseball power like A&M is becoming, but they have a lot more potential than WVU does.

Quality of academics: HUGE edge to Missouri. Not only are they an AAU school and top 100 in USNWR, but West Virginia is the second lowest rated BCS school (South Florida) Even Texas Tech and Mississippi State look like Harvard compared to West Virginia.

Major cities nearby: GIGANTIC edge to Missouri. Columbia is 1 hour from St. Louis and 90 minutes from Kansas City.
