Any chance ESPN and the SEC renegotiate the deal and leave CBS out and have the network game of the week on ABC? Or will CBS be a part of any renegotiation of the deal?

I'd think that CBS would be in the negotiation process, if only to get ESPN/ABC to up their offered money.

CBS can probably offer the SEC better timeslots than ESPN, too, since ESPN has contracts with the Big 12, Big Ten, etc., and only so many games can end up with a nationwide broadcast on ABC, ESPN1, or ESPN2 at any one time.

competition is a wonderful thing. if CBS doesn't compensate for adding 1 or 2 teams it is being short term foolish. however, i find it hard to believe that their contract doesn't address this issue.

I wish they would make the game of the week a primetime game or push the CBS start time back about 2 hours. Or if at all possible, split first choice up between the networks with the possibility of getting more primetime games.

last thing the SEC wants to do is goto abc. The game would be regional. CBS is the best thing to happen to the SEC and they will stick to that. If anything when the next rounds of contracts begin ESPN will be left out with the SEC teaming with CBS to do the SEC network.

that would be the best for the SEC, only thing is you lose some coverage on the pregame shows so do 1 game with espn in primetime, make it the second choice game.

best case all around if that happens.

I thought their games would be mostly national if the number 1 game on ABC and only moves to ESPN/ESPN2 in other markets if another game is scheduled for ABC at that time.

abc games are regional except the night game.

thats why cbs is so important to the sec.

CBS needs to get with the program and have a prime time SEC match up every week to compete with ABC's night game.

It's part of their contract that they can't. It took me forever to come across that, and I don't have a link. However CBS is making a huge push for College Football right now, so when everyone goes back to the table CBS will likely make a push to get more night games.

So hopefully we get more money from ABC/ESPN, more money and night games from CBS, and create an SEC which generates more $. The free market is beautiful.

Also, I'm not sure if it will come into play for the SEC, but NBC/VS is restructuring their sports like they are getting more serious. VS is being rebranded NBC sports or something like that, for example.

Given the time frames involved with the existing contracts (around 15 yrs or so), the most likely scenario is for the SEC and ESPN to reach some mutual accord that will lead to a partnered SEC Network that will be tough to dislodge.

Any idea why that's in the contract?
