Harbaughs or Payton would be cant miss. Jim Harbaugh seems a little more prickly than Jon.

Is Gruden a choice? If so, then him. Only because his name always comes up in coaching searches

Mike Tomlin as HC with Ed Orgeron as defensive line coach, Lane Kiffin as Assistant HC/TE coach, Frank Wilson as RB coach, hendersonshands as OC, Mark Dantonio as DC. Sorry NCAA, all of your recruits belong to me.

Forgot all about him.

I'm changing my original answer. This would be my choice.

I'd take these 2 in a new york minute too. I also love Pat Fitzgerald and David Shaw.

ETA: and the Bill O'Brien answer is awesome.

Shaw.

Saban is great, but he's also 62. Why would I hire a guy who is going to retire in 5 years anyway? I want a young guy whose titles are in the future. I want to pay for future successes, not past ones. I also hate the idea of hiring NFL coaches, as it is a different skill set. Give me a great, young college coach who could be at my school for over a decade and multiple titles.

I agree with your logic but disagree with the choice

My choice would be Harbaugh. He's done the Saban thing where he tried the NFL grass on the other side of the fence and I think he's ready to come back to college and settle down instead of grinding away at 100 plus hour work weeks as he enters his 50s.

I like Harbaugh as well. But it's like a politician who was once a Senator... they usually don't want to take a step back and become Governor. Hell, I like both Harbaughs.

I'd also look long and hard at James Franklin. What he is doing at Vanderbilt is absurd.

Fairly or not, the rape story has scared me off of Franklin. If he indeed knew and covered up as alleged then that won't be the last time he makes serious errors in judgment
