Because he’s 72 and been away from the college game for over a decade. A lot has changed since he left LA.

Why would anyone want to replace one septuagenarian with another?

The game is different than it was 5 years ago, but you expect a guy who hasn’t coached college in 15 years to be able to make it work?

Yep. It’s basically one year contracts and unrestricted free agency every year on top of the usual wear and tear coaches get from recruiting and Pete would also be starting over beating the bushes and making connections with all the right high school coaches and programs across the country.
