Let me know when Houston wins a National Championship. Then we can talk.

LSU is indeed a premier name but it is also just as likely to be a stepping stone to something bigger. If Herman is highly successful, he probably won't be here long enough to be a legend. He's my first choice, but that is the reality of the situation.

Dude, this is ignorant. A stepping stone to what, the NFL? Tell me when he decided that he wanted to go to the NFL? People can talk all the prestige crap they want about Texas and USC, but LSU is a destination job for any coach as well.

What would you consider bigger?
Turning LSU back into a Championship team would be the pinnacle of college football.

Give me an example, I'll see what they make, then give you 1 or 2 million reasons he will come here if he's who we really want

Why would a coach want to have to win the SEC to make the playoff

Bama won a National championship just a few years ago without even winning the SEC.

You don't want your conference to be talented from top to bottom. Clemson had no problem making the playoff having to beat only Florida State and Notre Dame.

LSU won a National championship with 2 losses a few years ago.

The SEC was winning championships with 1 & 2 loss teams before the playoffs were expanded to 4 teams. I don't understand the Clemson philosophy of avoiding as many good teams as possible & sneaking into the playoffs.

There is SOME merit to this argument, as we saw it play out last year. The coaching carousel was a seller's market with a lot of Power 5 jobs in play. Several bigger names and up and comers kicked tires and looked around, but almost all of the guys in good positions stayed put. As a result, a really good program like UGA has to settle for an assistant who has ties to the program. That's a pretty tough market.

It all comes down to a combo of timing and fit in terms of when and if coaches will move. I think Miles was ready to head off to Michigan the first time they called, but likely wasn't interested the second time around. Saban left Michigan State because he felt he was stuck in the shadow of Michigan, even when he beat them. Bert left Wisconsin for Arkansas. Mike Riley left a pretty low-pressure job at Oregon St for Nebraska, where expectations are much higher.

We shall see when silly season gets going for real.

"Same reason Dabo is gonna leave Clemson for Bama....money, prestige, and the most fertile recruiting base in the country"

Is that why they went through 4 coaches in the 10 years before Saban, firing 3 of them and the other leaving for A&M?

The playoff system has made the SEC a worst place to coach at

I love statements like this, it is really amazing to me how people can actually believe something that is so blatantly, obviously and worse demonstrably false.

If there is a better textbook example of faulty logic, I'd love to see, on second thought maybe not.

Please note that the SEC is the toughest conference and has more good teams is if anything a BENEFIT not a hindrance, but then again the FACT that an SEC team has played in the National Title game 9 of the last 10 years and the SEC Champ was in the 4 team playoff the 1 year an SEC team did not actually play in the title game would make that seem obvious but apparently not.

The top three of the ACC this year can compete with the top three of most leagues. The middle and bottom of the ACC is horrible, but who cares.

EXACTLY. This is what people, including you apparently don't get. The SEC is better because the middle teams are better than the middle teams in other conferences, not that the middle SEC teams are better than the top teams in other conferences. Because of that the SEC champ will get the benefit of the doubt come playoff selection time. Barring a 2001 LSU type upset, the SEC Champ will be in the playoff every year.
