That's due to the Alleva negotiation method.

Alleva the idiot - "O I'll give you $1 million a year."

Orgeron - "Really? Ok."

Alleva "ok make it $2 million."

Orgeron - "....."

Alleva "Dammit you're playing hardball, $3.5 million!"

O's salary is perfectly reasonable

Is it now? 3.5 million for a guy no one in college football wanted but LSU? Let that into your brain. No school in college football would have offered O a HC job. No one in college football had offered O a HC contract in ten fricking years.

Two million would have been enough. What was the man going to do? Say no?

I'm sure O would've taken the job at $2M per year but Alleva drives a hard bargain.

We can complain about coaching salaries in general but O's salary is perfectly reasonable given the situation.

exactly. $3.5 seems to hit the nail on the head as to what Orgeron should be paid (at least to start, he can be given raises later if earned)

I wonder if a school will ever pay a coordinator more than a head coach because I think in some situations, it is warranted. Aranda is clearly more important to the success of LSU football than Orgeron.

If you're making a statement like this....

I believe that was one of the reasons he sold himself to Alleva so well. There is no buyout in Orgeron's contract.

I heard this as well, he sold it as "its whats best for LSU, not me" i think it played a big factor in him getting it.. Alleva knew he could save money if he was the wrong hire, by not having to pay a buyout...plus what we have to pay Miles... The red flag would be that he would want a new contract with a buyout at anytime in his tenure.. We have the talent and the SEC will be down enough next year to where we should win 10 games next season with two extraordinary coordinators, if he ask for more money or a buyout in his future contract, id tell him to take it or leave it, what he has now is efficient for what ever he does.. it is already known that he has to have two fantastic coordinators if we have success, its on them two, not orgeron.. The Coord should have the large buyouts to which if they were to leave on their own for head jobs.. but we should pay them the most in the country to get them here.

he would never deserve them, its already known that the coordinators would be responsible for the success... if he wants a raise he can go to another school, he could win the National title and others schools still wont want him, they will want our coordinators..

Muschamp is still getting paid by UF. They had no offset language in his contract.

I asked the question of why did he get a 5 year deal? A 3 year deal would have been better, and if he deserves an extension then so be it.

It doesn't really matter if no one else in college football wanted to hire him. The head coach at LSU is going to be getting a salary that is at least around 3.5 million per year. Respect the office if not the man.

If there is little to no buy out does it really matter?

Edit: If anything, the longer contract is probably better for the school so it's don't overreact to early, possibly unsustainable success.

That is retarded. His compensation (lowest in the SEC) is fair.

This is retarded. His performance (as a HC) doesn't warrant being paid that much.

I hope Mason gets a raise he seems to be Turing things around at Vandy and seems to be a better coach then the other 3 who made more money then him.
