Because that is the bare minimum you will be paid as the coach of LSU. If they paid him less than that it would look like he doesn't have the support of the administration and he needs that to recruit. We can complain about coaching salaries in general but O's salary is perfectly reasonable given the situation.

At least someone else gets it.

His deal should have been for $1 more than Aranda.

LSU should have let Master P write him up a contract similar to the one he negotiated for Ricky Williams.

That, and it wouldn't look good if a school was paying it's coordinators more than the HC.

O's actual market value is nowhere close to 3.5 per year. It's probably more around 1.2 (maybe). However, Aranda's is definitely above 1.2, and if they want a big name OC, he is going to ask for at least that much as well.

I am fine with it to a degree if only 1 year is guaranteed. O doesn't deserve any guarantees beyond that with that salary.

And if people are antsy because he only has a short term guarantee, then they can suck it. He has to prove himself beyond a freaking interim tag before he deserves more.

The 3.5Mil is a byproduct of a lazy, piss poor AD trying to legitimize a terrible decision.

Nah, I think 3.5 is a bargain. You have to put faith in your head coach and the first step in showing that is salary. It also gives O incentive to work his way up the monetary ladder by winning big bowl games.

Are the details of the deal out? Is there a buyout in there?

I believe that was one of the reasons he sold himself to Alleva so well. There is no buyout in Orgeron's contract.

I don't give a shite about anything in his contract other than the buyout, which should be 0.

I would be pleasantly surprised if this happens. And what if LSU wins between 7 and 9 games?

How is it fair? What has he done to warrant 3.5M a year?

That's about $70,000 a week, by the way to be a rah rah man who recruits for his coordinators.

His last stint he failed on a much grander scale than his predecessor as well as his successor.

Please explain this correlation, because to most of us with a functioning brain, it makes 0 sense.

The real question is, how much did/will Ponamsky get?

You were probably one of the mouth-breathers telling us that about Miles before this year.

If you go on LSU's facebook page, you'll quickly realize that all Louisiana women love coach O, just like they loved Les at the end of last year.

It's explains a lot.

It's the min an LSU head coach will make.

The pay is not the problem.

I would have offered between 2 and 3 million with incentives.
