The Gumps were getting restless today on Finebaum about this. Old Paul said the heir is already on the staff.

I still find it surprising that Smart doesn't have a HC job . Must be a horrible interview.

He is just waiting for the right job. He wants to pull a Muschamp and get a job at a good school where the previous coach was successful and moved on to a better job/NFL and has a good recruiting base and talent present.

We would probably go with whoever Saban endorses, which would of course be Houston Nutt.

In all seriousness, I think the list would be (in order):
1. Bob Stoops
2. Dabo Swinney
3. Jimbo Fisher
4. Kirby Smart

Head coaching experience and a proven ability to recruit at an elite level would be priorities.

Kirby Smart will be the next HC at Bama if Saban leaves.

He's making more money than a lot of head coaches and knows he can be selective. Also knows that if Saban leaves he will assume the throne. Not that surprising when you really think about it.

You are all wrong. Bama will hire Houston Nutt.

It's Gary Patterson or bust for me. Patterson would be a perfect fit at Alabama. I do not want anybody else unless Pete Carroll or Jim Harbaugh somehow gets bored with the NFL.

so you think he is under the assumption that Saban will leave? There were good jobs out there, and he really may not have a better chance, especially considering the talent they have put into the NFL recently.

Gene Stallings.

OK seriously, my guess would be you elevate Kirby Smart.

There will be coaches begging for the job similar to the time they hired Fifthchoicerone.

Saban will recommend Houston Nutt.

Kirby Smart and try to keep most of the staff intact butyou know Bobby Williams would be gone. Ever since he failed at Michigan State after Saban left , he has been right with Saban.
