If they offer Miles, he's taking the job this time. IMO, Miles would've taken the job at any point, other than ruining a chance at winning a title (SEC or National title). Miles really, really wants to go to Michigan. And, he hates that they aren't competitive.

From what I've heard, Bill Martin offered Les the job in 2007. Then, fire came down from on high from Michigan people that did not want Les. Bill Martin was in the awkward position of having offered the position to someone that he could then not hire. The sailing thing was a stalling technique. Then the Herbstreit news just made it easier since they didn't have to withdrawal the offer to Les.

I'm still convinced that one of the Moeller/Carr clan leaked to Herb trying to ruin Miles' shot at all costs.

Maybe formally, but that was 100% Jimmy Sexton in the works trying to boost his entire client base. In reality, Saban didn't (and probably still doesn't) give a shite who coaches LSU. Saban is about Saban, which is why he's so successful professionally.

Why would Michigan want les ?

He has more talent on these LSU teams than he will ever get at Michigan and he still can't run a fricking offense. He can't call a time out to save his life except for when you shouldn't be wasting one.

Team constantly looks lost, burning timeouts after first down plays with plenty of time to get the call going, he has singlehandedly ruined quarterbacks...

Just don't see the appeal. But frick it, please take him. The only thing that worries me is Les getting fired and LSU gets stuck with another okie state reject like Gundy.

as much as you and i want him gone in the big ten he would probably win 9 games minimum every year. he could have a nice 5-6 year run their and ride in to the sunset being the guy who dug michigan out of the hole.

Hmm.

Ok. I love coach Lester and would be most upset if we lost him. But that Cinderella story of a mans return , bringing the team out of the hole to glory. That's the stories you live to hear. Let's make it happen Hackett

So one great season ( he blew the title game, if it was competitive it wouldn't be a slight against him, but that performance was so bad that the entire season has a shite stain on it).

A couple good seasons (which mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Yes you can't expect a title every year but still)

Then some bad seasons like this one.

Common theme through out all of those except one: bad offenses with some good and elite defenses sprinkled in, and some horrible QB play.

This is rant material though and not coaching changes board stuff. I'll tone it down now.

if LSU wins the bowl game, this "bad season" would be better than all but one of Michigan's last 7 seasons. Go look up Michigan's records since the 70s. Bo Schembechler, Gary Moeller, and Lloyd Carr had almost 4 decades of having similar records to what Les Miles has had at LSU.

Michigan would LOVE to go back to winning 8 games during their "bad seasons". Bo, Moeller, Carr were all good coaches, but not great. But, they won at a very high volume (just like Miles). Bo was the coach for 21 years. Zero national championships. Moeller coached 5 seasons, zero national championships. Lloyd Carr coached for 13 seasons, one national championship. So, for 39 seasons of winning at a very high level, they had one national championship to show for it.

Michigan would die to go back to winning at least 8 games a year, winning their division occassionally, and even winning their conference.

Les Miles is literally the perfect coach for them in every way. His accomplishments and style almost exactly match the history of modern Michigan football.

I personally would like to see CLM leave but if I remember correct Dylan Moses dad said as long as CLM is the coach at LSU Dylan will go there.

My question is would you like to lose Les as well as Dylan and let say hypothetically Toliver or keep Miles as a coach..?

Those are 2 amazing recruits that certainly look to having promising futures but what say you?

Good post, good point.

Can't argue that Les is inpressive but you are right that his shitty LSU seasons would work well enough at the big house.

Good enough for me. Fire Hoke, he a joke!

I would much rather Les Miles stay and adapt to the game. He needs to completely remove his hands from the offensive side of the ball. Just focus on recruiting, be the face of the program. But, let someone else be responsible for 100% of the offensive decisions. Starting with recruiting QBs and all the way to how we kneel the ball when we beat Bama again.

He's almost the perfect coach. Almost.

...so you want him to stop being the Head Coach?

LSU is created in Les Miles' image. This is what the program is, and always will be if he's there. The only question is, are you satisfied with it.

While worrying about losing recruits is a concern its not a major factor imo. We can't let one or two recruits hold a program hostage because we are scared they might not stay committed if Miles leaves. LSU is much bigger than Miles or anyone recruit. The bigger concern about Miles leaving would be who can we hire. If we kept frank Wilson and brought in a good coach I bet most of the recruits could be saved and if not we have a stock pile of talent and the new coach could close the north LA flood gate.
