Some guys aren't meant to be in the huge programs. I'm not saying he may not work out next time, but maybe he wasn't ready and needed to be humbled to be as good as he is at Arizona now.

Maybe he could go to a huge program and be able to use his experiences at Michigan to be more successful.

Carr essentially left the cupboard bare for Rodriguez. There was NO defensive talent left after Carr's last year with the maize and blue. Add to that , Rodriguez was about to completely overhaul the Michigan offense which was going from Mike Hart running the ball 25-30 times a game to a read option/ spread offense like he had at WVU and Pat White. He didn't have near the personnel for that. So as a result you get a .333 winning percentage in the beginning. Hoke started winning games with Rich Rod's recruits like Robinson.

"Michigan man."
I feel like this is the largest problem Michigan has. Bo, who was not a Michigan Man, said "a Michigan man is going to coach a Michigan team" right after he fired their basketball coach for leaving for Arizona State. It was meant to mean that they wanted someone who was fully committed to the University. They have since bastardized this quote to make it essentially that there will be an alum who come in and rescue the program from mediocrity in some sweeping romanticized fashion. The list of candidates that are alums and good football coaches is pretty damn small.

They didn't give him enough time. He tried to change the system. They would have been really awesome in 2011 if he had stayed. They didn't support him because he wasn't a michigan man.

Yep. Schembechler was a graduate of Miami of Ohio and was coached by Woody Hayes, then he became Woody's assistant.

50% no support, 50% not enough time given due to that lack of support. State of the program was so bad that the next guy was going to need a few years to get the right talent and depth back to where it needed to be. Rich Rod is a proven winner and has had success everywhere he has been absent Michigan. He is a very good football coach.

Exactly. People are overanalyzing it. Brady Hoke went 11-2 his first year and was respected greatly.

Okay. Thank you for your valuable insight, however wrong and clueless it is.

This has been beat to death, and I guess rightfully so, but it's not the mindset for most fans up here. We want to win, don't care where the guy coached or played before. Does it make sense that the immediate candidates are successful coaches who also played here (Harbaugh, Miles), yes but the list of candidates does not end there.

My friends and I debated this earlier in the year, my theory is that his offense is better suited for the Pac 12 than the Big Ten. Bigger defenses and more possession based offenses that clash with the Rich Rod personel type. Just my two cents.

His offense wasn't the issue.

Let alone the other successful BIG10 teams running a similar or variation of his offense.

And you made yourself look like a dumbass. I tried to stop ya. Bubba.

So let me ask you a couple questions. If Carr was fired, why did Bill Martin (you know who Bill Martin is, Bubba?) when told by Carr he was retiring after the 1-2 year, talk Lloyd into coming back for one more year?

Do fired coaches usually retain offices in the athletic building?

Do they usually advise the athletic director for the next decade?

Do they usually raise millions and millions of dollars for the University?

Odd behavior for someone who got fired.

By the way Bubba, I am an Alabama grad. So that pretty much makes me your daddy.

He was like 3-21 in conference games or something like that. He had plenty of time. He never got along with boosters and alumni and he came in saying he was gonna run things his way and he didn't care about the past and the Michigan way.

this is what I had heard as well

It was not from lack of results. He won more games each year once he got his person eel in there. Hoke then won 11 games with rich rods team. Admin did not like his personality

The didn't allow him time to get the guys he wanted in there and get the system in place. That's the biggest problem with going from pro style to spead. These schools think they shouldn't have to wait to be good at it.

Auburn is another example. Obvious it ended up working out for them but they wanted to switch and had no personel for it and they got hammered for awhile.
