Nothing st all on Sterlin Gilbert I assume?

I find this one to be troubling. We looked at Helfrich, who would bring about a huge transition that could take 2-3 years to fully realize, but passed on a guy who runs a spread offense that would likely be easier to implement, is also available, and has solid Texas recruiting ties. I don't get that one.

So, Riley is out of the question?

Would be a huge culture shock in terms of what people are used to offensively here. Well regarded in Texas, runs what O is supposedly looking to go to, young and energetic.

Exactly my question. Is there no chance to get Riley? I like Canada but Riley has done it at a bigger program. If not Riley than Canada would be a great choice.

That's the rumor, but I don't think it is a done deal. I am wondering why he wasn't on the interview list BEFORE Strong had that job.

Yea I think it's essentially done deal

Edit: I said that before I saw your reply. But at this point I think it's done deal bc we aren't talking to him if we haven't yet. But yes I agree he was available before strong to USF

When he kept looking after Houston turned him down, it was OVER. The fact that O didn't see that is a little troubling.

Who says Coach O didn't see that? Or was even waiting on Kiffin after that or even before? Obviously things have been taking place behind the scenes as evidenced by the original post.

Yeah, maybe throw 1.75 at Riley and make him say no. Present a pitch that he could return to Norman as HC in a few years.

If you think Gilbert would be a culture shock, think about shifting to Helfrich's offense. If it didn't work, it would be a complete implosion and would take 2-3 years to recruit out of. He is supposed to be a brilliant guy, and he likely has the biggest upside, but also would have the deepest basement of our candidates.

Some of us are not happy that O waited for him to move on. It leaves a negative impression, and it has VISIBLY hurt offensive recruiting.

I don't think they waited on him to move on. I'm pretty sure they had feelers out. It's not uncommon for coordinator changes to make it til after bowl season to be announced.

Just because we haven't heard a lot doesn't mean nothing was occurring. Think of all the rumors in past years that were just flat out wrong.

Looking and actually getting the job is completely different. One job left and he got it. Obviously the process will speed up now. Orgeron saw it. Why do think Canada is being flown down the day after? He had a plan. Some of yall just want LSU to fail, so you can have something to bitch about. Miserable people some of yall are.

I understand that this process often takes longer. This is different than when Miles was the coach. He had an offensive identity that was going to carry over to some degree, no matter who the OC was.

The issue this year is that O has no recent track record of offensive philosophy or hires. He may have expected to be able to hold things together by telling our offensive recruits what they want to hear, but it isn't working. We have an EE QB de-committed, another wavering, a WR who's already flipped, and a big time RB who is openly wondering what the hell we're doing.

In this situation as a new, defensive minded head coach, who's last HC stint was over a decade ago, waiting around, or even the perception of it, has been a negative. There is no other way to spin it. I hope O plus it all together fast and gets offensive recruiting together down the stretch, but there have been mistakes made here. Openly saying he was waiting to make a hire was a bad move in his position.

Gilbert has been there for one year. He doesn't have solid ties to recruiting. I believe the guys name is Jeff Traylor. He was the guy on Texas' staff that had the connections. He is a well respected former high school coach.

I'm not one of those. I wasn't for him getting the job, but now that he has it, I really want him to succeed. He's our guy, and him succeeding is what's best for my alma mater.

That said, he hasn't had much success the last two weeks. Head coaches have to control perception as much as reality, and at the very least, our recruiting news over the couple of days demonstrates that there is a lot of confusion and perception is a problem right now. He needs to get out in front of that, and waiting for after the bowl and having at least 2 offensive coaches who are great recruiters hanging in limbo land is causing problems.
