As of this morning, 12/21, the Longhorns have signed a JUCO place kicker and have eight verbal commitments.

A few highly regarded potential recruits backed away from the Horns when Strong left, which was expected.

So what is up? Is Herman going to pull a rabbit out of his burnt orange cap and finish with a strong class, or is the UT brand not as attractive to Texas high school recruits as it once was? Let me know what you think.

He and other new coaches shouldn't be truly judged until next year's recruiting cycle.

He didn't flip Carter. UGA didn't have any early enrolment spots.

He can't be judged after a couple weeks when Texas was a shite show before he got there. I hope he does terrible but honestly how can he be expected to have a good class this cycle.

This is what usually happens when you bring in a new coach.

Iirc Les Miles first class at LSU was 13 players and he proved to be a pretty good recruiter.

The UT situation will be interesting to watch. My guess is he'll do just fine after this cycle

Nick Saban's first class at Alabama in 2007 was average at best. Only Rolando McClain was really elite. And he was already commited when Saban took the job. Recruiting is about relationships. And those have to be mended. I'd judge him NSD 2018.

He has had the job less than a month.

He needs a year or so to rebuild relationships with those all powerful Texas HS coaches that Charlie apparently pissed off.

You will see in two years what he can accomplish.

Idk what held Charlie back at UT, but that won't be the case with Herman.

This is the norm with coaching changes. People like to rag on O but what he is doing with this recruiting class is awesome.

This is interesting. Usually it takes a year or so to get recruiting going with a new coach--most 1st year coaches have underwhelming 1st classes. But Herman was in Houston, not Michigan. It's only 2 1/2 hours from Austin. Seems like he should have already evaluated and developed relationships with these recruits and their parents and coaches already, no?

Houston likely wasn't recruiting the same caliber of player as he needs to sign at Texas, at least in great quantity.

totally different type of athlete that you're recruiting to UT than UH, so the targets are likely much different.

some of the overlapping targets likely considered UH in passing and not seriously, so now with herman at UT, you pretty much have to start some of those relationships over...since the kid may likely take a Herman/UT offer much more seriously than a Herman/UH offer.
