update at 645 pm 11/19

quote:

I am told that whatever "rumors" there were about Tom Herman have been overblown.

I am told Texas brass is ready to pursue him.

Baylor and Oregon are the likely competition.

I want to reassert that I do not think Texas will pursue Tom Herman if Charlie Strong is fired.

I mentioned it yesterday but not many people seemed to read that part of the update.

Additionally, there is no timetable for such a hire.

I wish I could provide more color on the topic than that, but that is what I've been told.

**

If Texas were to look to replace Charlie Strong, I'm of the opinion you try to go "big" first and foremost.

But obviously the odds of landing a Saban, Meyer or Petersen are extremely low.

Therefore, these are the guys I'd consider.

Mike Gundy
Gary Patterson
Bryan Harsin
Will Muschamp
Jimbo Fisher
Justin Fuente
Mike McIntyre

Just goes to show you how much people take message board threads as the gospel!

Maybe Herman wants to stay at Houston until some NFL comes calling (cough 49ers cough)

So, Bryan Harsin is big fish and Tom Herman is not? Kaaaay....

The most reasonable guy on that list for Texas is Gary Patterson. Very good coach and tons of TX ties already. Might be ready for a change, and it is only a 3 hour move for his family.

well not just message boards. a lot of cfb reporters said the heat cranked up on strong when lsu fired miles. they wanted to beat us to the punch for herman.

was told that Herman is too much of a control freak to go to the NFL...wouldn't want to deal with GM or owner.

Texas insiders have said long ago that Herman isn't as interested as many seem to think, but not many seem to want to accept that for some reason.

I know some will say it's the other way around, but this has been the word since August.

To be fair Harsin has never finished below 2nd in conference play as a head coach

Ive lived in Boise for a while. Ive witnessed the Peterson era as well as the Harsin era, moreso with Harsin as Im attending BSU. He is a damn good coach, (not making a case for him over Herman) who runs a clean program, keeps accountability of his players, and runs a damn strong offense with local players. He doesnt get much credit because the Mountain West conference is a boring conference. Give that man talent, money and resources, I guarantee he will have a top 10 program.

Then he would definitely not go to the niners... they are a pile of garbage. York and Baalke are a train wreck.

Fair enough. To be honest, I haven't paid attention to BSU since Petersen left. I figured Harsin is just keeping the lights on.

I want Texas to be successful. That helps weaken a+m long-term. Best scenario is for Strong to stomp the competition these next 2 weeks and keep his job. Otherwise, if they want to hire Harsin, sounds good to me.

So basically Herman has gone from being the top target at Texas and LSU to not being pursued by either? Wow.
