Spurrier is the best choice.

Forget the age crap. At 62, he's got AT LEAST 5-7 good years left. That's the longest tenure of any coach we've had here in decades. AND BECAUSE OF THE AGE, HE WON'T BE LEAVING LSU TO TAKE ANOTHER JOB.

Forget the "he doesn't like to recruit" crap. First, I don't believe it. Second, there are many things successful individuals don't like to do. But they do them anyway because they know they have to in order to be a success. Third, I've seen South Carolina recruit kids from out of state that would never have considered the Gamecocks if he hadn't been the coach. Great athletes are drawn to Spurrier like a magnet because they know he can coach them up to the next level.

Forget the "he's lost 5 in a row at SCU" crap. I've followed their program for years. Trust me, Bear could rise up from the grave, move to Columbia and he couldn't turn that program into a contender. It just ain't doable.

At Florida Spurrier dominated the SEC. At LSU, he would do the same thing.

The Spurrier name recruits itself. I don't think that would be a problem.

For those of you who refer to South Carolina and that Spurrier is done, first of all how many SEC championships have the gamecocks won before Spurrier got there? How many winning seasons have they had? I don't think any coach in this world would make that program champions. Oh don't get me wrong, they have some really good players and he has brought some excitement to that program. I agree that the name Spurrier recruits itself. Look at what kind of recruiting classes that the gamecocks have had since he has been there. I am sure some of you are saying....well if he had such great recruiting classes then why has he not won championships at South Carolina....I just think that you need to have a winning attitude and the gamecocks didn't have that before he got there and don't have it now. That is very difficult to change. I was never a Spurrier fan and actually hated him when he coached at Florida. The reason I hated him was because we could not beat Florida, they were so darn good because of Spurrier. I would take him as coach of LSU. Guess what, a lot of fans from other schools hate us now....just think if Spurrier came here...they would hate us and fear us.

Lou Holtz did better for a couple of years than Spurrier is doing and he did it faster. Just sayin'.

The reason Holtz did a better job is because the players were afraid to get spit on by Holtz.

He is getting old.

He's 62, so I'd say he'd stay 10-years at the most.

Just in case anyone was interested...

Dec. 2, 2006

The university's board of trustees on Saturday approved a reworked contract that increases Spurrier's yearly salary to $1.75 million, up from his current package of about $1.25 million. The first coach to lead South Carolina to a bowl in his first two seasons also had his contract extended through the 2012 season.

The agreement also increases the buyout Spurrier or the school would pay to terminate the contract from $250,000 per remaining year to $500,000.

I don't think the salary and buyout increase is a show stopper.

Mostly meant that its not dick to LSU and using the Miles buyout money they can pay SOS's and up his salary to $2mil a season fairly easily.

LSU would have had to pay Miles $3.25mil min if LSU had won the NC this season

Spurrier would be at the top of my list if I were AD...he's already not happy with some things at SC dealing with the admissions system there and he is never going to get the talent to run his offense like he did at Florida in SC but he can here and its already here...
