i can see that, but fuente isn't leaving vt after one year. gundy has had an amazing run of success relative to where he's coached.

Likely not, but it's worth a conversation with him and his agent if he would have any interest in an upward move. It would be huge to get a guy that early in his career if he's as good as he looks.

Can he recruit against Saban, Freeze, and anyone else coming to La. to poach talent? Oh and Orgeron someone will pick him up unless Gundy is smart enough to keep him around in some capacity.

As long as Gundy is guided to preserve the current recruiting talent as much as possible, I'm good with it. That plus Aranda.

I'd love O to stay, but he may be a casualty of pride......at $1million a year and being home, I'd hope he would consider.

Gundy cannot do a clean sweep with team Okie though.

All candidates have strengths and weaknesses, and if we are looking only at the best available candidates, Gundy is near the top of the list considering Alleva's criteria for an LSU coach. He is a great offensive mind and has been successful at a school and an area with an inherent recruiting disadvantage. His defenses have been subpar, but so has just about every defense in the Big 12. Charlie Strong is a great defensive mind and had a hard time fielding a decent defense in the Big 12. Also, Gundy seems to be a high character guy sticking up for that player in connection with his "I'm a man" rant. He's also an alpha guy, which I think is needed as a head coach. Behind Fisher, I don't think you will find a more qualified head coach for LSU.

More success than Les Miles at Ok St.

Kind of how you look at it. Miles took over a program that had 3 straight losing seasons and 1 winning season in 12 or so years prior to his arrival. He was 28-21. and ended with 3 straight winning seasons.

Gundy took over and was 26-23 in his first 4 years which included a losing season his first year. It is possible those first years had a something to do with getting personnel to fit his offensive scheme. His overall record looks eerily similar to Miles (lower overall wins and percentage and lower conference win percentage).

He is lower on my list than most of the other names flying about.

Gundy is a pretty underrated coach. What he's done compared to OSU's history is amazing. With that being said previous OSU coaches didn't have T. Boone's money.

It could be way worse. I'd much rather him over Fedora as I see them as somewhat similar with gundy doing it at a higher level longer in a place that isn't exactly a sexy destination. If he he could keep Aranda and have O as recruiting coordinator I think that is a solid enough group that you could win a championship. Gundy has put a lot of wr into the pros and even some very avg qbs on to nfl rosters. We have a lot of WRs that underachieve and qbs that seem to regress

Gundy doesn't appear to be an elite recruiter and, hence, is a huge risk
this is somewhat of a valid concern because even when they've had success it hasn't always translated into great recruiting classes. They were in the sugar bowl last year and you look at their class right now and it's pretty bad.
Now on the flip side of that, he's consistently over performing with the classes that he has, what does that tell you about his player development?
And he's putting players in the NFL.

I'd be completely fine with him as long as he can recruit well. I have no clue how well he did at Oklahoma State, but I assume he would do fine here at LSU.

Good candidate, fan base would never get over the hair though.
