re: Schad: LSU might be willing to waive/lower Les Miles' 1.25M buyout

If it is waived because they have someone else, I would suspect Patterson or another coach with the same agent as Miles.

i would only waive it for Nick Saban, Jack Del Rio or John "the man" Gruden....
Be realistic. If Alleva has gotten Patterson or Fisher to commit to coming to LSU, I'd be okay with it, but I just think the two of them are drastic long shots.

Not saying Les is leaving, but my theory would be he is telling recruits and current players he is leaving to help keep them calm and from making a rash decision to leave. 20 year old young men have a habit of doing such things. IF he does leave, I imagine he wants to leave LSU in as good of shape as possible. You guys have been great to Les down there and I would think he would like to leave on good terms, such as a top 5 recruiting class and a full roster returning
Could be, and I think Les is the kind of stand up guy that would do this.

i still like my theory. if he says no, there is no need for a buyout. therefore, waive it.

With all the budget cuts going on why would we waive? Lsu actually needs that money
The Athletic Department and the University are two different entities financially.

Can posters really not see why we could possibly due this? I realize it's speculation but there is an angle to this and it isn't us being stupid. If there is one thing Alleva understands it's the financial side of things.

And the university still takes their money. Not really two separate entities at all.

I would be extremely pissed off. Would Les waive or lower his buyout if we fired his arse? Doubt it! A deal is a deal and must be honored. BTW, my take is that Les will meet with them this afternoon, turn it down and they will fly home to name Hokie their coach. JMO

Miles and Gary Patterson have the same agent. I honestly think this might be a negotiation with Miles' agent in an effort to swap out with Patterson to LSU. Probably just wishful thinking. However, I think it is either indicative that we either have another coach already lined up or that we have a complete idiot as an AD.

I don't then Schade knows what the eff he's talking about. I'm guessing this is an assumption or guess on his part. I doubt he knows anything regarding the LSU situation.

maybe LSU's offering that inducement to miles and asking that he either lowers or eliminates LSU's buyout to him should he not take this michigan for future negotiations ..
Yes, this is meant for the new contract, not the current one.

Nothing to indicate this, so let's be optimistic.

Guessing the former. Alleva is a finance guy, he understands that aspect far better than skip ever did.

Maybe LSU hates LSU too!

what if it means, if you don't go to michigan, there will be no more buy out?
Right - they're saying that it's now or never. Who wants this hanging over our heads after each failed Michigan coach gets fired? Either go or commit to here as long as we'll have each other.

If this is the case, then why would there be a buyout only for him going to Michigan?
Posted on 1/10/11 at 4:29 pm to Tiger Authority
athletics isn't hurting for money. the academic side has always taken money. people still have money around here and the LSU athletic fund isn't going to dry up over 1.25m esp spread out over what would be 5 years

Id trade miles for Patterson for sure if we can keep the 2011 class together

Highly unlikely

why would we do that when we can use that buyout to get Mullen?
First we have to make sure that we can get Mullen...
