Anyone else see potential for the Texas situation to become REALLY funny before it's all said and done?
It reminds me of Tennessee. Tennessee got Kiffined. I'm hoping they end up going the Kiffin/Dooley route.

Jamail said that the the university will honor that, but it likely wouldn't prevent him from hopping to another school.
Ya think?
I'm guessing the boys in Austin would love nothing more than to release Mack from his obligation.
This may make sense on the surface but no way does Texas want Mack to go elsewhere. I could see some Big 1G and Pac 12 schools that would love to hire Mack. He also has a lot of ACC history. The guy is still a name and he has strong Texas and national recruiting relationships.
The nightmare scenario for Texas is Mack leaves for some other school and finds some success. In the meantime he is able to recruit some of the same kids Texas is after and is able to say anything he wants about Texas.
They would much, much rather him go into a DKR type role where he makes big money to play golf with Big Cigars and gets to relive the '05 Title game while they build a statue of him. Mack being friendly also can do a LOT to ease the transition of the next coach, especially if it isn't a guy with heavy Texas ties.
Oh, and there is that whole bit of his attorney being the biggest donor at Texas that has their field named after him and has threatened to stop giving any more money to Texas already.

How can texas justify paying mack to be special assistant to the the president at 1 million per year. That job is a joke and this is a public university. How much does the president make? he should make much more than his special assistant.

I don't believe anything Jamail says.
UT is ran by arrogant assholes that pay their way to what they want.
I think it all repeatedly blows up over the next couple of years.

Texas kept DKR around in a similar role for decades. They even kept David McWilliams around. A&M still has RC Slocum on the payroll.
It's easy to justify paying those guys because they are rainmakers. If you were a die hard Texas Big Cigar wouldn't you love to have Mack Brown take you out for golf at the UT Golf Club and tell you how much they need you to write a big check so they can build some new bathrooms for the football team? One thing Mack and RC and DKR all had in common is those guys were personable as hell and they knew how to sell and recruit. It's a big asset to have them to keep the money folks happy and allow the current coaches and administrators to focus on their job while those guys do the schmoozing. Huge PR value as well with charitable stuff they can do and just being the face of the school in general.

It would never happen but I think Mack could take SMU further than Junes Jones has just based on his ability to recruit alone.
He may have worn his welcome out at Texas but Texas HS coaches still love him.
IMO it's in the Horns best interest to make sure he stays at the school in a fundraising roll.

Mack would do well at Nebraska. Their fanbase would love him. He would get to be on the "easy side" of the Big 1G. He could recruit well there and wash away a lot of stink of Pellini.
