Schiano isn't that bad. Some college coaches can't hack it in the NFL. Spurrier's NFL win record is only one game better than Schiano. And there was a reason the Bucs hired Schiano in the first place - he was very successful building up Rutgers. That wouldn't be a terrible hire for Michigan.

Not that it would be a terrible hire, but not what we need. I don't know if it's "uninspired" but obviously our program has a very high ceiling and right now to get there given what we've been for the past 6-7 years we need name that will generate buzz among recruits and fans alike immediately.

That said, Schiano could be the hire and prove 3-4 years down the road it was a good move, but I don't think the immediate payoffs would be there as there would be with other candidates.

The people reporting this are not "insiders" they are national media and have no inside source at Michigan or with Harbaugh. Sam Webb an actual Michigan media guy that has many insiders is still reporting Harbaugh has not made a decision and that these guys are crazy.

Harbaugh is going to the Raiders, it's pretty clear.

I think there was some sort of connection to the GM. And how good could Schiano be if he couldn't win the Big East? Finished with 2 losses once and lost at least 4 games every other year.

ETA: As I seem to recall he always had a strong Florida connection, so that job would have been a better fit for Schiano.

If Harbaugh goes to Oakland and turns them back into a Super Bowl contender he will be looked like a God there. I really dont believe he is going to Michigan.

Do you understand the legend he could create here if he turned us back into a power?

Whether deserved or not, our most revered and popular figure on this campus never even won a National Championship while he was head coach.
The draw of becoming a figure similar to that at your alma mater, and follow in your beloved coach's footsteps, is something that Harbaugh has to be considering as he makes his decision.

Harbaugh wants to stay in the NFL, and on the west coast.

Rap said today there is mutual interest between Harbaugh and the Raiders.

Move on.

Was this really necessary? Did people actually think he ever wanted to leave the NFL?

What is Rappaports inside source? Webb a Michigan beat reporter says its still alive.. I am assuming he knows much more than a random national media guy?

The dream isn't dead yet. Nothing is ever for sure in coaching searches.

Amidst all the Beaver/Webb power play madness over at scout, Sam Webb had this to say:

"The only thing that's different from a few weeks ago is the feeling among some that he will be a tougher pull. But he is not impossible. Far from it. The source that corresponded with Harbaugh yesterday is at 50/50, but I'm a tad more optimistic than that in the aftermath of Lloyd's public advocacy. I'm at 60/40 Michigan gets him."
