His value definitely comes with his connections.

Hard to draw on Ole Miss tenure since I wouldn't really consider them much of a recruiting competitor to LSU.

He only spent one year at Tennessee and Freak was headed there... Wouldn't be shocked if he played a hand in Janzen Jackson getting up there too...

I do agree his greatest value is to LSU, but if you are a school like Florida that is naturally appealing to national recruits, having a guy with Louisiana ties that can make them feel like Florida will just be home away from home with him... I think he could definitely be of value.

anybody could have gotten JJ if they did what LSU didn't (ignore him once he committed)

i think ed o was the main guy on JJ anyway

eh

UF has much better inroads in the carolinas than LA. getting the frank wilson of NC/SC would benefit them a lot more

They have better in roads there right now... but doesn't mean they will in the future.

I just don't buy that Wilson is basically worthless to anyone but LSU.

Frank Wilson can do some damage in New Orleans.

There is New Orleans and then the rest of Louisiana. New Orleans is a hotbed of recruiting in the state.

If he was at Florida, LSU would definitely feel the effects of him recruiting New Orleans.

he's not worthless by any means

he'll hurt programs like ole miss/AU if he goes to a UF or UT by getting the 2nd tier guys who pan out like bolden or the occasional 1st tier guy like trovon reed/robinson

or if OPW produces more superstuds. he'll get them

maybe 1 or 2 guys every few years. I would be more worried had Wilson been at LSU for a few years and was going to leave. He has recruited LA for other schools, but walking into High schools with that LSU shirt on catches these kids attention more than Ole Miss or Tenn. I would really be worried about the contacts and such he has made had he been at LSU for an extended period of time. But thats not the case here.

But unless Miles really starts fricking up, I dont really see him pulling kids to say, Florida. The majority of kids from LA want to go to LSU.

It was like that before Wilson, it will be like that after Wilson, should LSU still be considered a top program by that point.

Having Wilson out there on the road, specifically around NOLa, is reassuring. But within the big picture, others have proven to be just as effective.

A lot of people said the same thing about Orgeron. Who is known as one of the best recruiters in the nation. He has had trouble pulling LA kids to the schools he has been at. And this is a guy who has been cited as a national recruiter of the year by some scouting services.

It is just hard to do, no matter how revered you are as a recruiter.

Muschamp going after Wilson is not all about recruting and the players florida could get.

Muschamp knows that the best way to cripple LSU over the long term is to get Wilson away from here.

It is about the players LSU would lose if wilson were not here, regardless of where they end up.

meh.

It's been about 7-8 years since public schools in NOLA have put out much LSU worthy talent.

He obviously has connects there, having coached at OP Walker and been a higher-up in the NORD program.

His other connect would be St Aug, where he went to school. Like some of the NOLA public schools, there have been a scarcity of developed talent that is LSU worthy over the last decade.

Fournete is an up and coming guy from there. They have a few decent lineman that will play D-1 as well this year. But they have proven for awhile over there at St Aug that they have talent, but it is not developed enough for LSU to sniff.

the talent around the NOLA metro area is coming from other Catholic League schools(Rummel/Shaw/Jesut etc), the river parishes(Dest/Hahnville/East and West St John/etc), and the northshore schools have put out some good athletes lately.

Shoot, is arguable that WIlson has done his best job this year in Baton Rouge actually. and LSU should never have trouble recruiting in Baton Rouge.

Look, I love Wilson, and was a huge advocate of LSU hiring the man, but him leaving would no cripple LSU.

That's ridiculous to even think that.

The only person that can cripple LSU is Les Miles.

I think a lot of that has to do with those kids being dispersed due to Katrina.

As the city continues to get re-established, there should be more big time NOLA prospects.

LSU and Miles recruited well before Wilson. If he leaves, which would surprise me, we will continue to recruit well. I would certainly prefer to keep Wilson. I do think he is more valuable to LSU than he would be in Florida, but again, we would continue to recruit well with or without him. Hopefully he will stay at LSU.

Wilson's biggest pulls out of Louisiana at OM were Lionel Breaux, Kentrell Lockett, and Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis. Good players but no blue chips there. I don't see why he would be hired away from LSU to go to UF.

and Green-Ellis was a transfer by way of indiana. A guy that LSU didnt even look at out of HS, who was a pretty damn good player. Blame it on the St Aug coaching inadequacy maybe, which has been underwhelming in developing their talented players.

People say Katrina is a big reason that NOLA is down, esp the public schools.

But the only public school kids basically worth a damn to come out in the last 10 years, even before Katrina, have been OP Walker players.

and shite, 2 of the best ones werent even "good enough" for LSU.

Im trying to re-jog my memory, but shite, Marshall Faulk may be the last major NOLA public school player that was good enough at the time to play for LSU, that LSU wasnt able to reel in. Talman Gardner maybe? shite, i dont know.

was talking NOLA public schools (orleans parish)

LSU has controlled that public West bank Jeff parish pipeline before Wilson was in the picture. Skyler, Chris Mitchell, Nevis, etc. Not to mention Shaw HS

Frank Wilson at another SEC school will hurt LSU to some degree. There is no way around that fact.

At the very least he will be an enormous headache to the recruiting staff.

Outside of the Algiers schools, I can't remember any big time recruits from Orleans parish public schools (except for Faulk, of course).

I think the moral of the story here is that West Bank=Best Bank
