Outside of the Algiers schools, I can't remember any big time recruits from Orleans parish public schools (except for Faulk, of course).

Saban had a few in his early years. After sitting back and thinking about it, i can see him maybe taking those guys to establish a pipeline for the area. They werent bluechippers at the time, but they were solid recruits in most people eyes.

they all ended up sucking. Tory Collins, JR joseph. They had another big LB'er from Karr the year they signed Tim Pope.

actually JR Joseph may have opened the OPW pipeline. Who knows. He came before the buster davis, cooper, daryl johnson, etc

Yeah, Collins and Joseph were in that '02 class that I said the other day was probably our worst since Saban got here, out side of the 13 man class. I have very little doubt that Joseph was to open the pipeline and establish a relationship with Wilson.

But even still, Collins was the only one from the East Bank. It just seems like any time a kid on the east bank shows some athletic promise, they end up at one of the private schools, which is probably better for the kids anyways, as far as getting exposure.

Marquise Hill from back in the day. RIP.

Made it cool for New Orleans kids to look at LSU as a viable option again.

Yeah, he did help turn the tide, that whole '01 class was absurd. But Hill wasn't a public school kid.

01 was so sick

got every blue chip in LA(clayton spears hill whitworth)

dipped into TX and got one of the best OL in the state with Wilkerson. I think Addai was in that class too out of HOU.

dipped in and got a few prospects out of ALA and FL

that was like a microcosm of what Saban wanted to do with LSU recruiting and even to this day is kind of the map they still use.

of course the most important part was locking down LA
