This is exactly why I question the whole Miles offended Carr/Michigan thing. It simply doesn't pass the eye test.

The irony of this statement is that the statement "uncovers" more about Dave Brandon than anybody else.

quote:

"All that glitters is not gold when it comes to some coaches," Brandon said. "A two- or three-hour meeting with a coach uncovers much more than you could learn scanning the Internet or sifting through statistics. Sometimes the hype or the PR doesn't match the real person."

I'm confused about the hate on Michigan and calling it garbage. If you look at the 10 years from 97-2006, Michigan won 10 games 6 times, and won a national title.

They have been bad 3 years and now people say the program is garbage? I hate Michigan with all my heart but they were a consistent top 10 team THIS DECADE

Hmmmmh. My Brother-in-law in Georgia, his step Dad is an Ohio State alumni, the first time i met him he commented on LSU fans down in NOLA for the NC game...he called us classless and a bunch of other things (5 minutes after meeting him) I was polite but firm in my support for LSU and commented on how our defence was faster...when I said I have family in Michigan and have a soft spot for the Wolverines he just about went crazy. I regret Arkansas shitting the bed this year against Ohio because I'll hear about it next time i am in Georgia...I was always taught to respect my elders but there is something about this guy that makes me want to tell him to GTFO

I really don't get the need to backhandedly insult the most prominent Michigan alum in college coaching today. Brandon is a jerk. Why would Miles want to work for him anyway?

All Brandon needed to say was that he had discussions with Miles about the job, but both parties decided that it didn't work out to be in the best interest of both parties and let it drop. The media would continue to speculate, but it doesn't look nearly as ugly as it does now. Brandon now has a situation where he has alienated many Michigan fans. If Hoke doesn't work out, he has put his own position much more at risk.

add in bill mccartney's bullshite comments and Michigan men don't appear to be men at all. just jerks with an overblown sense of entitlement sitting around smelling each others farts.

we take on tc McCartney (when michigan sure as frick wouldnt) as a favor and his grandfather spits in our face.

miles handles his press conference with class and speaks highly of Michigan and his love for the university and the fricking AD throws him under the bus.

frick Michigan. schedule their entitled asses and we'll see that gold glitters a helluva lot more than fricking maize.

No they have 1 national title. And how many top 10 and top 25 finishes? I mean you have to look at more than national titles. Some years you can go undefeated and not get a shot, and other years you can just get unlucky, it happens.

They had an awful 3 years and are still top 15 in wins in the decade and the program sucks?

I think most know Michigan has a great history. People are more pissed about the way the coaching search is being handled by the Michigan administration more than anything. It's not been handled with grace and class, to say the least.

I don't agree with calling Michigan "garbage." It isn't. But the anger is directed toward the insulting way that the Michigan AD has acted toward the most prominent Michigan alum in college coaching today. Fact is LSU is currently a better job than Michigan, and has been for the last several years. That doesn't mean Michigan is garbage, but it does mean that LSU is a better job right now.

I am glad Miles is at LSU and isn't leaving to go to Michigan. I don't have hard feelings toward Michigan itself, but the AD is simply a jerk and has even hurt himself with his own fan base because of the way he has handled this situation.

a snapshot of a "Michigan Man":

Bo Schembechler. Sure he could run the gauntlet in the midwest and earn a trip to Pasadena but he was a meager 2-8 in Rose Bowls. All Bowls overall 4-12. Zero National Championships.

How is this coach on such a high pedestal? This is the ideal they want as a foundation of their program? A true "Michigan Man" is nothing more than an underacheiver.

This is why Michigan is annoying. Heck, "Michigan Men" are not even from Michigan...they are from Ohio!

UM hires a Fred Flinstone look-a-like who speaks like my local plumber and now they think the program is turned around. You have got to be kidding me.

And there should be a cautionary moral in this for LSU and every other program that is currently enjoying an extended run of success. It's easy to fall into this kind of arrogance. Just look at some of the "who will we get if Miles goes?" posts from the last week.

We have 3 down years and we are garbage? It's amazing for a school thats such garbage, our coaching search, albeit a very disorganized one still managed to take the spotlight during not only the Sugar Bowl, but the National Championship game.

We may not have been winning national championships left and right, but the bottom line is for the past 40 years before 2008 we were winning. In 2006 we were one game away from playing in the national championship game. Won 8 Big 10 titles and 1 national championship. Not to mention that 40 year bowl streak. It's not being arrogant, or hanging onto history it's being proud of the accomplishments.

Trust me when I tell you, we are not happy with the way this thing was handled. Fans are fed up with Brandon, and didn't appreciate the way he was a dick during the entire process. Didn't like the swipes he took at the candidates, especially since two of them are so fond of Michigan. I also was not one of RR's biggest fans, but I didn't like the swipes he took at RR during the presser. I get that you guys don't like how Brandon acts like hes above everyone, but trust me, we don't like it either. I am offended that he thinks we are so stupid to believe that Hoke was the only candidate offered/ in the running. Fans wanted Harbaugh or Miles. We weren't listened to, theres nothing we can do about it. There is also nothing we can do about his attitude except hope that he decides sooner rather than later to begin that career in politics. We're not gonna take this out on Hoke though. It's not his fault how this thing was handled. The only thing we can do is stop buying tickets, donating money, etc. Most people love Michigan too much to do that though. Our donations give the players a chance to be a part of something special. Thats what it should be about rather than telling the good ole boys club to F off.

I think the OP used made a bad title for this thread. Most of us through the thread have praised the UM posters who have been on here as well as the Michigan program. The thread is directed more at Brandon who made some back handed comments about passing over Miles/Harbaugh for Hoke.

Like I said earlier, the Michigan posters who have been on here are nothing but class and I wish the best of luck to y'all as you move forward.

No. I get that. Thats why the longer part of my post was about Brandon. Trust me, again, we are NOT by any means happy or thrilled with Dave Brandon. Has he done some cool things like The Big Chill, or our first night game, playing Alabama in 2012, yes, but his handling of this will be how hes remembered. Go on any Mich message board, you see people calling for his head, calling him a dick, blah blah. But really, there is nothing we can do. The guy will not apologize, its not the way he is.
Sorry he offended you guys by taking swipes at Miles. It was uncalled for, truly it was and we are not happy about it.

I must have missed this. I have no idea how since I'm glued to this site, but I did.

What did he say?

Brandon said something to the effect that not all that glitters is gold, some of the candidates put themselves before the program, the players.
He never specifically said names, but he was definitely taking swipes at someone, or maybe all the other candidates he interviewed. I dunno. It was tacky and uncalled for. Just say Hoke was your guy, doesn't matter what choice he was.

I truly think the problem is Brandon is an ego maniac, who wanted to sit in on everything and be involved ala pseudo head coach. With Miles or Harbaugh they wouldn't have allowed that, thereby wouldn't be allowing Brandon to inflate his ego. It was probably more about putting the team and the job they would be hired to do above Brandons ego. I'm honestly surprised he didn't name himself as head coach.

Oh. Well, whatever makes him sleep better at night. I think Les did put HIS players first, and the program HE built/sustained.

Honestly, that really doesn't bother me. Guy sounds like he is just trying to sway fans away from their favorites so there won't be so much negativity for Hoke.

I hope Hoke gets support and succeeds. You can tell he loves Michigan. Thanks for responding.

Don't put this LSU fan in that category....I've always liked UM and really hope Hoke turns it around.

As you should be....he looked very uncomfortable and out of place. Insulting the other candidates was just a horrible move on his part.
