He welched...can't blame Alleva for pulling the offer. When that happened Alleva panicked and gave the job to O. Should have at least considered several others with such a high profile position. Bama had the same situation with Rodriguez. Then Mal Moore realized he had to be patient and ended up with Saban.

From the article, it doesn't say that Herman broke his word, only that he "wanted to hear what Texas had to say."
Alleva could have said, "fair enough, we respect he wants to be certain in his desire to come to LSU. We'll give you 24 hours."
