The long contract and likely a ton of guarantees on his deal are what worry me.

None of that concerns me at all as long as the buyout is either

a. Prorated over the remainder of the contract

or

b. No greater than 1 year's salary

meh it's a boom or bust hire, you swing for the fences or you foul out.

I would be grateful that you aren't zeroing in on a schiano type.

He has a 40 mil buyout at FSU so it obviously won't be either of those

oh absolutely. i would be ecstatic if we pull this off even given my reservations about the type of money we are committing for the length that we are committing it

Seems like LSU has had superior success with inferior HC

I am, but I am curious who we are looking at beyond him if FSU suddenly decides to match it and keep him. I think he would be really successful here and recruit lights out, but nothing is a guarantee and the downside could set us back for a long time

Not as good as a source as the son of the president of the search committee though.

I also think our boosters are actually taking a back seat here. Our problem was always the money people not letting the AD do his job. The fact our top target is someone with a ton of ties to the AD and not to a booster tells me he is actually running it which is very encouraging.

There is no search committee. For the first time since the early 80's, the AD has full control here.

I think Fuente is the backup plan but who knows if he would leave VT so soon. After that I have nightmares of Aggie Chad

Woodward is happy living in Texas. LSU may be a retirement gig for him later though

I’ve known him since he was 5. I know where his end game is and it is LSU AD. He is next after Alleva. I can’t imagine that being more than a couple or so years. Bookmark it. His political ties parks him in the Seat even before his qualifications, which are good.

Sounds like it's gonna happen if for no other reason than Fisher is dead set on leaving. FSU has been giving him the runaround regarding facilities and assistant salaries for years and he already had a bad relationship with the boosters and most within the AD.

Not scared of Jimbo. That's for sure.
