I had the years backwards. Sorry, it was 15 years ago. I was going off of memory. He still rushed for nearly 500 yards in an injury shortened year. Not because he was a backup. It doesn't make their situations any more similar.

And I have NOTHING against Keiland Williams. I was hoping he would set the LSU rushing record on Saturday. It just irritates me when people have favorite players and they think their player is getting screwed all the time. I like whoever lines up.

You need to realize this is all about debating and discussing issues. I can look at Jack Del Rio's record, but I wanted to hear people's opinion's about him. That's the purpose of this board, otherwise when someone asks about a coach, we just need to direct them to wikipedia.

I still think it's a risk to hire someone with zero college experience, but I could get on the Del Rio bus if it's ready to roll.

basically it was another passive aggressive attack and when you got no bites on the "yeah he would suck" you just decided to give it up.

i actually worked with JDR for a very short time between his playing and coaching career. they were set to stay and put down roots permanently in south LA (yes, his wife is from here and her family is still here). he then got called to go play again with the dolphins and from there he eventually wound up in coaching.

my impression of him is that he was a very nice guy and has all the tools to be a great recruiter (he's well spoken and a good salesman). the other side of recruiting is the hours and ability to not take no for an answer (saban). I don't know if JDR has that, but after working the hours required of an NFL headcoach, i can't imagine the work ethic isn't there.

I'll add "mindreader" in your bio, right next to 14-year-old wussy.

Just so we can get a jump on next year, who is going to be your favorite player that's getting screwed?

i tried a minute ago, i cut all around a michigan hat and pasted it on miles' head but when i pasted it, it put the hat in a white square that covered up half his head. I don't remember how to make the white part go away.

From Wikipedia: (lol)

quote:

Jack LeBron Del Rio (born April 4, 1963 in Castro Valley, California) is a former American football player and is the current head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Professional career

Del Rio was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 3rd round of the 1985 NFL Draft. His 11-year career was spent between the Saints (1985-1986), the Kansas City Chiefs (1987-1988), Dallas Cowboys (1989–1991), and Minnesota Vikings (1992–1995). He played in the 1994 Pro Bowl. Signed by the Miami Dolphins before the 1996 season, Del Rio retired when he lost his job to rookie Zach Thomas. Del Rio notes retirement as one of the toughest things he's ever had to do. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated Del Rio stated the only thing that kept him from suicide was his prized Barry Manilow cassette.

His middle name is Lebron and his sons are Silver and Socrates? That's awesome.

Who was the last successful NFL coach to do well in the college ranks?

Define successful?

Pete Carroll has a winning record in the NFL. Dave Wanstadt made the playoff as an NFL HC But its only been recently that Pro coaches considered going back to college and that colleges were paying on par or even better than some NFL teams, so there's not really a lot to compare.

I'm not saying either of those things. I just wonder why he is the top candidate among many LSU fans.

His coaching record is nothing spectacular and he's never coached in college, not even as an assistant. He's never recruited, dealt with alums or boosters, academic issues, etc.

I'm not for or against him, I just want to know what about him has so many people in his corner.

These are good questions really

He has no experience in college football (the guys who have been in the NFL and come back to college like Carroll had a lot of college experience first)

He has done ok but not great at Jacksonville

Does seem to have connections to Louisiana and that is good... but I'd think people like kelly, harbaugh, and patterson would be mentioned ahead of a guy with no college experience and who has not succeeded in winning championships or conferences in the NFL
