Why is he such a popular name with LSU fans? I don't see it.

Lived and played in New Orleans, and met his wife there, who is from Lafayette.

For some odd reason, people think they are just dying to come back.

its almost like he tried to get the LSU job once and then was to be interviewed last time before Skip botched the entire search. Crazy talk. Hell, some might even say he has a daughter that attends LSU and another who is an alum.

He was mentioned in last search until the Jacksonville GM pulled him in the office and said why do you want to go talk about this job.......

He did show some interest.........

The better camp to be in is the "Nobody would ever want this job, we can never do better than what we have" camp. If you had your wish DiNardo would still be our coach.

Everyone that doesn't agree with you is a rantard.

I'm not saying either of those things. I just wonder why he is the top candidate among many LSU fans.

His coaching record is nothing spectacular and he's never coached in college, not even as an assistant. He's never recruited, dealt with alums or boosters, academic issues, etc.

I'm not for or against him, I just want to know what about him has so many people in his corner.

Young NFL defensive minds have done terrible in college football. Carroll and Saban

He'll sure up one side of the ball immediately and be able to recruit his arse off. (But yeah since he was never a GA at Valdosta State, I'm sure he'd be a huge failure at recruiting and have no idea how to stop any of the wacky college offenses.)

I remember all of the talk before Mile was hired and maybe he would who knows? What he wanted 5 years ago and what he wants today could easily be very different.

in the NFL. he's a solid coach

he was a really good DC...in the NFL

young, energetic, and a guy who has proven himself as an Xs and Os guy...in the NFL

and he's led an NFL team to multiple playoff births

as a CFB HC prospect, he's basically a better version of pete carroll

So that's all it takes to win in college football? Be a young, NFL defensive mind? OK. Since you are so steadfast, I won't bore you with the lengthy list of failures who meet that exact standard.

BTW, Saban and Carroll were both college defensive coordinators before they went to the NFL and came back to the NCAA. I don't know where the GA at Valdosta crap comes from.

You need to re-read my posts on this topic. I have nothing against Del Rio. I'm just looking for some opinions on him that go beyond "he's young, he would be great."

Dude played for 11 seasons, made a Pro Bowl and was All Pro one season and he won a Super Bowl. Is he a Hall of Famer, no, but he was a good player.

Thanks, SFP. That's what I was looking for. A logical response. Maximus needs to up his meds. He's defending JDR likes it's his job.

I'm looking for anything from you besides "he didn't coach in college 20 years ago so he will fail." You're argument is as strong as your "Les always plays the best RB at all times" arguments.
